Jestr's in Florida but John is more than capable of tuning you via emails (send datalog, he sends you a new map which you upload to your ECU and do a pull somewhere safe, and the cycle continues until you're set). Of course that's no match for a dyno tune with him sitting in your car.

Correct me for my ignorance, but how would I do a datalog?

Did you see other people's runs. Were they also dissapointed? Just wondering about the dyno's set up / calibration.

Well, I only saw one other car dyno. It was a supercharged Honda S2000 that put down around 306 whp. The owner mentioned that he was surprised by the #s because on other dynos he had been dynoing 315-320 whp. Maybe it was just a bad calibration. However, Dan did say that most stock STis were making 240-250 whp on that particular dyno.

I guess I'm just stumped as to why my #s were so low. The car surely feels like it's making more than 243 whp. I can't recall any 3300 lb 240 whp car feeling as quick as mine does.....

As an example, I have a 1994 Camaro that I compared it to, and with the Stage 1, the STi stood neck to neck with it, literally. At the time, the Camaro had a full catback exhaust, cold air intake, lt4 knock module, custom pcm tune, 2400 rpm stall converter, shift kit, and a throttle body air foil for its "go-fast" parts.

Camaros normally weigh around 3400 lbs on average, but for argument's sake, we'll say 3500 lbs, just to be on the safe side.

Last year, I decided I wanted to see which was faster, so the wife and I took'em out- me behind the wheel of the STi. We hit an empty highway and rolled off from about 35-40 mph to well over the legal posted limit. I just "knew" the Camaro was going to eat the STi's lunch, but it didn't happen. I started off in 3rd gear, and the reason I chose 3rd was because the car pulls extremely hard in 3rd and 4th. I figured I was in the "meat," and if I was going to win, it was going to be at my advantage to start off in what I like to refer to as my "power gear." Neck and neck.....we were literally staring eachother right in the eye driving down the road. We both just threw our hands up and called it a draw.

Now, I've never had the Camaro on a dyno, but I would be willing to guess that with the bolt-ons it was making at least 280 whp and probably around 325 lb/ft tq at the wheels. I don't believe there is any way in Hell that the STi would've even touched the Camaro, given its 243 whp dyno reading.

That 272ft/lbs of torque would make your car feel fast. Was it raining that day by any chance?

My friend's RSX-S with 300+whp is a torqueless wonder. It doesn't feel that fast until you look down at the speedo and see how fast you're actually going.

No, no rain. Sunny as could be. It was also a bit chilly outside, so I know it wasn't a matter of warm weather.

I have since viewed Cobb's site and found some upgraded maps from the ones I was using, so I decided to try running one of those tunes that I downloaded from their site. I think I found my missing horsepower. I viewed the notes regarding the program that I'm running, and I have no clue what they did, but the car definitely feels quicker.

Could be a slight increase in torque. I've been in a car that felt very quick to mine when stock but when we lined up, I took it by a few car lengths. Turns out he had a buttload of torque but was really low on the HP side. It was like 215whp/290wtq (lower HP but way higher TQ than a stock Evo). This is why I shy away from road tunes unless I've already been dyno tuned and just want to tweak for knock or lean out because AF ratio is showing a rich state.

Go with the Jestr tune and you won't be disappointed. John's service and knowledge are

I've visited that link that STISTL provided for the data logging software, and while I joined the forum, I'm not sure what I need to download or where I need to download it from.

What I want to do is get this software running so I can try running a few of the different Cobb tunes and see what I run into with each one.....

Try shooting Jestr an email and he could answer your question in depth to get you set up to do a remote tune by him.

How far is Maryland from Florida?

Get a custom tune and be done with it. You will pick up another 40-60 WHP and some more torque. I know my car when it was stage 2 did not like the off the shelf map. As soon as i got tuned it was a night and day difference. When cobb makes there maps they have make them extremely safe because everyones cars are not going to be the same.

Yeah, I gather as much. About 20 lb/ft tq at the wheels is nothing to sneeze at, but I just expected to pick up a little more than stock hp along the way.

it actually could be the gas. I believe that Maryland adds extra crap to the gas in the winter time to help with emissions. You can search up on it.
