Toyota may be acquiring Subaru
Are you sure that Toyota is trying to aquire Subaru not Suzuki? Toyota will not do something that they won't benefit. What does Subaru has that Toyota needs? If it's aeronautic, Toyota was in the scene a long time ago. For sure it's not the 4 wheel drive system. Toyota did win the WRC Manufacturing Championship with the hatchback corolla.
Suzuki on the other hand makes great diesel engines. Toyota wants the engineering behind diesel engine because they're planning to incorprate the Hybrid technology into a diesel engine. In short, Toyota wants to make a Hybrid Diesel engine.
Interesting!!!

Well, most people really like subaru, and they're pretty hot around here, and i'm sure toyota would want to get back into the performance market after the lame last couple years. ( i mean, trade the supra for the Pria**?!?)
If anything, the cars will hold their value until the next ice age.

Well if it works out for Toyota...the next Toyota super car/STi will put Toyota high up there. With Toyota having some of the best engines (lasting forever) and Subaru Performance...it could be very good. Maybe the start of the new Supra...or a fule efficient STi.
i keep hearing the porsche motor this, the porsche motor that lol
and people saying the great sound comes from the porsche motor design. honestly , i dont think the guys at the dealer even know...
cheers!
My gues is that they are trying to:
1) tap into Subaru's market share,
2) consolidate production/sourcing,
3) use some of the technical know-how that Subaru offers (every company is not good at everything...
Is it going to dilute the Subaru image in the end? (especially the Sti/WRX line)...I am not sure but if I had to absolutely guess I would say yes, absolutely.
SAAB is a perfect example because, even though they are having record sales (which are still one of the lowest in Europe...Skoda sells more cars!) it is obvious that a SAAB is not that anymore...it trully does look and act like a Subaru, which is not always bad. At the same time, if I am paying $80,000 for a Benz...I want just that, NOT a Chrysler...

make yourself clear, its not that the porsche design makes the sound, its the boxer engine that subaru designed years ago that makes them unique to any other brand. the "flat 6" and "boxer " engine have nothing to do with each other.....

Someone that has more time can research this and fill in the details.

Toyota already owns Hino and (most of) Yamaha. Hino is a leading manufacturer of diesel medium duty trucks. Yamaha, of course, does a lot of things including bikes, but a lot of Toyota cylinder heads are designed with/built by Yamaha. A great many of the heads have Yamaha stamped on them. They also own Daihatsu which does really will with small/kei cars.
Suzuki is a great success story and actually had the largest growth of all the Japanese manufacturers last year, even more so then Toyota (percentage wise), even with relaxed anti-trust laws, I don't see how they would be allowed to buy them.

Whether they stole it or not, they did collaborate on a project a while back. There was some special Legacy that had a Porsche tuned heads/engine and Porsche/Brembo brakes. Don't remember what it was called.

Actually Toyota owns a lot. They also own Denso. Well Toyota created Denso but the Desno gotten so big that they made it into a separate entity, but still over looked by Toyota personnel.
I just don't see the benefits that Toyota would get from owning Subaru.
well from a article i had read it stated that toyota is either part owner or owner of fujitsu heavy company (something like that) and guess who fell under that brand?? Subaru, so it looks like toyota always had ties with the subaru company
It means getting control of more plants=more capacity which they desperately need if they are to become the world's largest automaker. While GM, Ford and now Chrysler are shutting plants down, Toyota has 4 more US plants on the drawing boards.
