Help me with my junkyard motor!

I don't know where else to go to find this info, so I am sorry for posting this here. I have a Bronco with a 351W that my mechanic just installed from the junkyard. Now the junkyard claimed that the motor held 160 for compression and ran fine (their mechanic tested it).

Well the motor's in the truck and it's just pouring out white smoke (we let it idle for about 20 minutes and drove it around the block too.) We checked the water and it's fine (not low). It has a new headgasket, etc. Now could the motor need the rings re-seated? The mechanics said that it could be a possibility since the motor was in a wrecking yard, but they are not sure. They said driving it hard for a little while may help. What do you guys think? The motor drives like it has plenty of power, but I don't understand why there is so much white smoke coming out of it. Is there some sort of cleaner I may be able to buy to help ease the smoke a bit?

Once again sorry for posting this here, but I don't know where else to go for help and I am pretty bummed as this just ate up my money. Please let me know what your ideas are.

Thanks,
Kevin

Another thing- They said it had 109,000 miles on it.

How would I go about getting my $ back? What can I do? I already paid for most of the motor ($800 so far) and I still haven't paid him for his labor.

What is the best way to go about it?

Thanks.

Does it have good compression? Leakdown test? try and figure out what's wrong, as though it was not a junk yard motor. Doesn't sound good, though.

Compression is at 160, which they said is good. Never heard of a leakdown test. How's that work?

Just talked with my mechanic and they decided they think it's actually burning oil.

When I saw it, it was white though. There's no probs with oil mixed with water in the motor, or in the radiator...

Could the pistons really need to be re-seated? They said it's a possiblity. They're going to take it over to the auto recyclers tommorrow to see if they will swap out the motor, but they're thinking they will refuse to pay the labor on it.

How could I get the auto recyclers to pay for it? Or do you guys think I might be screwed?

Google for the leakdown test, and you might be screwed b/c you bought a junkyard motor.

Maybe the turbo is leaking coolant inside.

Thanks guys. As it has turned out the white smoke was from the cleaner when they put the heads from the old motor onto it. And it was burning oil because the valves were shot. But the mechanics are hooking it up big time and they took the heads off to fix everything- free of charge. I'm very excited about that!

Oh, and maybe someday I will throw a twin turbo setup on that beast! Just not with a junkyard motor!

Seen something like that before it could well be crap "can I say crap?" in the exhaust from the last engine that was in the truck may take a while to burn that out.
