Is the Evo save on snow?

Questions:

1. I'm moving to Utah pretty soon and I was wondering if the Evo is capable enough to drive on the snowy winters of Utah?

2. Are front wheel drive worser than rear wheel drive on the snow?

3. Why are all wheel drive better on the snow?

4. Which AWD system is more sophisticated and advanced among the Evo,Skyline and STI? or the Audi's AWD "quattro"?

1. Definitly, but you'll need All Seasons, where are you moving here/when?

2. No FWD and AWD are both generally much better than RWD in the snow, however they all stop equally in the snow and RWD definitly needs some good All-seasons or snow tires to survive well.

3. AWD is just better at accelerating and sometimes handling in the snow because you have 4 tires struggling for traction instead of just 2. RWD is generally worst because they tend to oversteer more and oversteering is something you really really don't want to do in the snow.

4. Probably the Audi's, but I don't know, and if you have a 9 then your's is more sophisticated than mine so I couldn't say for sure... The more computers that monitor traction the more sophisticated. On my '03 the only thing that adjusts the AWD power are parts of the drivetrain (the TC, Diffs, etc).

Let me know if you have any other questions about here.

Don't drive in the snow with stock Advan tires. All-seasons should be ok depending on the amount of snow.

Hmmm... I think this has been asked before, but I believe the Audi Quattro is best, with Nissan Atessa E-TS Pro System a close second. You also might one check out Honda SH-AWD.

all seasons are a joke IMO. go with true winter tires and you'll be fine.

These are very basic questions that could be answered with a little self-will and about 5 good minutes.

Asking which is better, AWD or RWD in the snow? Come on!

And I don't think "Worser" is a word. Well atleast my 7 year-old son says so. DON'T DRIVE WITH ADVANS ON IN THE SNOW. HINT HINT. CRASH CRASH

all-season tires arent really designed for any significant amount of snow... its more for cold weather(light snow) and rain. driving often in lotsa ice and many inches of snow requires a dedicated snow tires like blizzaks

i use blizzaks for the snow. we had heavy snow recently in new england and i went driving around laughing at the hondas and bmws getting stuck. took pics of my cousin's 07 si getting stuck... was funny. then i did sum doughnuts in an empty parking lot. stock tires is a nightmare in the snow... my car starting sliding sideways during my first winter with it. all season is for driving in your garage.

This is definitly true, hence my asking where he's moving here. If he's going to be living on the rim of the Salt Lake Vallely he'll want snow tires for sure, if not, he'll be fine. Our snow plow system is insanely fast and insanely skilled. There have been very very few days where there has been any amount of snow or ice on the roads. But if he has the money to dish out for winter/summer mix instead of straight all-seasons then that is definitly what he should do. I did that my first winter with the Evo and it was amazing, but it was a waste of 1000 bucks on tires because it is certainly not cold enough here year round to wear snow tires for more than 4-5 months of the year, at least, not if you want them to survive to next winter

you guys must get some nasty *** snow. We had 3-4" at least 5 times this winter and I had no problem. There were icy roads too.

Either that or i don't drive with the throttle all the way down so my tires spin out of control and I allow myself space to get on the brakes a little easier and to turn slowly so I don't slide...

Let me the correct myself it is worse not "worser" good looking out.

I will be moving to Vernal City, somewhere around 84XXX zip code, how bad is the snow over there?

I've never driven on snow, that is why I ask real people with real experience instead of reading off the internet somewhere else. I consider evolutionm.net like part of my family now

Don't forget about the ground clearance (or lack thereof) with the Evo. If you're going to be driving a lot during the winter months you might consider a subaru wagon or mini suv unless you want to be a snow plow
