Is this a retarded idea? Turbo Accord?

I had a 2005 Dodge SRT-4... ran a 13.1 with it... I sold it for a more "for now car", to get me by... so I could get what I really wanted. Well, I ran into a snag and am not able to get a new car for a while now. I have a 1998 Honda Accord LX Auto, 114k... 150hp vtec... don't know how many liters because quite frankly I never gave a crap to pay attention, it was my for now catch up on bills car. SO I am getting antsy, and contemplating weather or not to start playing with it, maybe developing a project out of it for a reason only god knows. The car isn't ugly but damnit it's an auto and its... haha, an accord. BUT I figured what the hell, there are plenty more practical like 4 door, don't handle so great cars that have some oomph and I thought maybe living with this thing would be alot better if I had some boost? Am I retarded for even considering this? I know there must be an aftermarket, it's a honda and well.. the cars not ugly really, nice front end styling and the rear doesnt look so bad either. Maybe some stock accord wheels from a newer gen, some springs... window tint or something? Make a semi quick sleeper out of it? Or am I just... well... retarded?

If I where to pull this off, what would need to happen? I am no stranger to forced induction but would I kill this car? Can this tranny take more HP? Would it even be worth a damn? Or could I actually run a bolt on kit with the supporting mods, without doing internals? I don't want to get too deep into this, even if I consider it... once I find out if it's retarded or not.

If you have to ask, it's retarded. It's not the car, it's that if you want to make a fast car, you shouldn't have to ask. Also, your not knowing very much about the car doesn't help. The fact that you know it has VTEC but didn't mention the number of cylinders and admit to not knowing the displacement concerns me.

All that, to me, is irrelevant. This is more of a lifestyle question. If you can't afford to get what you really want, why would you start funneling money into a 10 year old car just for the sake of it? Every penny you would spend on a turbo setup for that car, instead put in a savings account towards the new car when you have the means.

The engine, by the way, is an F23 (2.3L) and can handle boost just fine.

T25 kit gets you into the 225 HP range.

if your trying to get outta debt and still wanna have some fun your going to spend too much money on a turbo kit for that thing. Just wait it out and get what you really want.. its not worth the hassle. You'll put down 250 at best. I've done a few f23 turbos all with failing luck. the motors are good... the cars just heavy by honda standards.

LOL. I've got the same car for my DD - a 1998 Accord LX 5sp. Being a 5sp doesn't make it anymore sporty really, but it's great for a DD. Pulls me 32mpg and the Evo sits in the garage awaiting track time, weekends, good weather, etc.

Appreciate the car for what it is, a very reliable DD that gets good mpg and has low maintenance costs. That's my .02.

The car weighs 2932 lbs... 225whp doesn't sound too bad. I hear the transmissions are strong but the stock block may not be able to take too much of a beating for too long. The car for some reason was reviewed by motor trend etc and praised for it's handling. I have even considered doing some suspension work on it and using it as a practice dummy to improve my driving skills. The way I saw it was...

- The car isn't ugly, it doesn't sport a bad color either
- It's reliable
- It's practical with boost or not
- A boosted one would be sleeper ish, or just something different
- What's wrong with a different project? A good learning experience? Better on this than my M3 or EVO down the road?
- The car has potential and it's what I've got, typically I wouldn't even bother but it has some things going for it... like the boost and variable valve timing combination, the aftermarket seems big for even this.

BUT... the things I question

- A car with this mileage? Can it handle this kind of modification?
- The kit is a claimed plug and play and about $2800... we all know there is more to it, but what? Install, tune? Or would I need to upgrade internals and the transmission? What supporting mods can I live with out or which ones are a must have?
- Would it be a better idea to get some coilovers, light wheels... minor brake mods and nice rubber and autocross the crap out of it? Even if it doesn't have uber power??? or any power at all? Ahha

If I did whatever I wanted to it... this is what it'd be

JDM Headlights, 20% window tint, drop... dark wheels on the white car... turbo kit? Not so bad sounding but again, is it worth it? As far as saving up? For another car? That seems sort of unrealistic with an income like mine... MEH! I dunno

The 6th gen accords are great cars. The stock motor can handle some boost, nothing crazy, but enough to have some fun with.

Although, not exactly the same, i used to have a 6th gen as well, but it was the V6.

Does the fact that I have 114k on the car hinder its ability? Am I thinking of bad ideas?

I've got a turbo honda accord. It's a 4th gen accord lx, 2G turbo manifold (redrilled for the F22, small 16G, DSM450s, ebay FMIC, ebay charge piping, Tuned with Uber. 11psi. It was an auto car but the turbo finished that off pretty quick and we started a 5 speed swap.. eek it's still on blocks.. Having trouble with the rear motor mount - needs to be finished up or sold. Honestly its a fun car to drive with the turbo on it. Of course it doesnt have performance tires so it just rips the tires all the way up the block.. its kind of funny but lots of fun.

As far as Mileage, I cant recall if we put the turbo on mine at 150,000 or 190,000.. either way... You'll be fine. Get on an accord forum and do some research. http://www.cb7tuner.com/

That's all I'm really looking for is a good time. Making the best out of what I've got. How much has your set up set you back thus far? Is a bolt on kit really all I need to do so? or will I be advised to go with other goodies to be safe. Just want somethink fairly quick and not so freaking boring. Hell I wonder if I'd take my friends Type S with Intake, RH, Exhaust... I think that puts em at about 200whp? Only 100lbs lighter if that. Does the kit it self really take me up to about 225whp? or is that with internals too?

If your income doesn't support saving money to replace this car, what on earth are you doing considering dumping $3000-4000 of money into a 10 year old car with 114,000 miles on it? You will not get a single penny of that back down the road. You will probably end up with a pile of nearly worthless mods, an unusable car, and a $4000 credit card bill that your admittedly small income can't afford to pay off.

Get your head out of your posterior and think about how stupid you're being for a second.

WSB you are right, and I highly doubt that I will even entertain my idea with follow through. I am in a position now where I need to catch up now, worry about a car later or end up with no car now, and no car later.
