Like I said, I don't want a car that is going to be an endless chunk of modification JUST to ALMOST kinda be quick... I want something that does things well out of the box, how is the drivetrain on these cars? I had an Explorer and my transmission went to crap at 100k, actually I think at 80k I just didn't know WTF I was listening for...

My buddy bought a 2003 Type S, he has an intake, exhaust, springs, wheels, tint, short throw bla bla bla... he bought it with 82k for $13,000 bucks... it will run a high 14 at best... = CRAPPP and it's still wrong wheel drive. I'd probably look for a Cobra, I remember driving a red Cobra vert and I felt cool as hell in it, especially the sound mmm. I just hope that these cars can indeed handle, that will be my first priority... the corners. How drastic of a change from stock are you at an with how much invested?

Properly set up Mustangs do very well on a road course. Not unlike the Evo, it takes some cash and research to do it right.

Check out Top Gears review of the Roush Mustang. They loved the way it handled and that car had about $1500 in suspension pieces.

Oh, and the fbody handles better than the Mustang (hence the reason Ford put a similar suspension design on the new Mustang). The 05+ Mustang and the 4th gen fbody are about equal.

Why do people ALWAYS bring up the way a Mustang handles on a road course? How many of these dumbasses buy cars and go racing at Laguna and Nurburgring? Most people live and drive in the real world on streets and freeways. Mustangs are perfectly fine for this, I had one for years and never once was handling an issue. Thats just what gay and pretentious ****** like to say.

If you live on or only drive on a race course, by all means get something else. But if you are like most people and live in the real world and you want alot of power for a little money and some RWD fun, you cant go wrong with a Mustang.

Get a fox body. Go straight go fast. Takes too much money to make them handle.

Like I said before, it is not that hard to get a mustang to handle well. All it takes is a set of springs, good shocks and struts, some control arms in the rear if you have the solid axle, and maybe a panhard bar if you like. Chassis stiffening mods are good too like strut tower bars and subframe connectors. Like I also said, a friend of mine goes to VIR and summit point all the time in his 98 cobra vert. Thinking that a grand worth of suspension mods on a mustang won't keep up with other higher performance cars is just wrong.

A 98 cobra with 4.10 gears will be damn quick. The transmissions and stuff are fine, I would think one on a performance car would be great lasting around 100k miles. The rear end is pretty indestructible unless you are constantly launching on slicks. With intake, exhaust, gears and decent drag radials, you can run 12's easy, and with those suspension mods I said before, she will handle like a dream.
