sorry should have been more specific... they did offer a 1.8L in the later years albeit non turbo.

The 1987 third-generation Mirage was stylistically distinct: Mitsubishi had scored well with its revamped Galant and transferred its styling to the smaller cars. The basic model was a three-door with an upright tailgate. The top Mirages in Japan were called the Mirage Cyborg, featuring a turbocharged 1600 cc engine developing 145 PS (107 kW).

Engines available were 1.3 and 1.5 12-valve 4-cylinder engines, and 1.6 and 1.8 16-valve 4-cylinder engines. European versions were available in 1300 GL, 1500 GLX, 1600 GTi, 1800 GTi 16v versions.

Four-door models were usually called Lancer overseas, but Mirage (usually Mirage Vie Saloon) inside Japan. In Australia, all the models in this range were badged Mitsubishi Lancer.

The 1989–92 model year Mirage was also sold as the Dodge/Plymouth Colt and the Eagle Summit in the US.

The Mirage Turbo was on Car and Driver's Ten Best list for 1989.

The five-door hatchback and station wagon were carried over, though a five-door liftback was launched not long after the rest of the range on the new platform.

All that you stated is correct . I do need to mention that the 1.6 DOHC turbo engine was only offered in 1989 in the Colt GT/Mirage/Summit. It was designated as the 4G61. The prior 1.6 liter turbo motors were single overhead cam. 1989 was also the first time the DOHC engine was used in the Colt/Mirage/Summit in the U.S and the last time the turbo option was offered also. Anyway, the new Colt Ralliart R seems like it would be a hit in the U.S. An AWD version would definitely interest me.

Mitsu can't sell micro cars in the US well. Toyo and Honda are able to convince the public to do because of their reputation. Currently, what's the public image of Mitsu? I'm willing to bet it's lower than the modern hyundai.

I'm suprised by how many of you guys never seen this b4. You need to visit the jap Mitsu site more often . The galant fortis/Lancer here is a lil bit better than ours.

This guys is right, Mitsu needs to build their rep a lil bit more b4 they can bring the colt back over here. Fit & Yaris would over power it sales wise. But i would like to see it here in US, i like it.

I've always liked it, but its still pretty slow for a turbo sub-compact.
