S4 4.2L Engine Pictures
S4 4.2L Engine Pictures
This car was leaking oil from an unusual place, and the engine/transmission had to come out. The back end of the engine looks like a watch.

The pics didn't come out too well. I took them with an iPhone, and they look much better on the phone.

Actually, that 4.2 is a brilliant motor and quite reliable. It's consistently rated as one of the worlds 10 best engines. I've got one in my A6.
But some of the early S4's when they changed over to the V8 motors from the old 2.7 Turbo had some issues and were not quite as reliable.

I dont see how looking at the picture of a timing chain setup can make you know that an engine is unreliable. How do even arrive at that assumption? That timing chain setup is no more/less complicated than any other chain on many many v-configurations out there.
i put 60k on my a4 and treated it like complete *** and never gave me a problem..

Audi reliability USED to suck. Such as the A4 B5 and below (before the 2000's). But recently (the past 5 or 6 years) their reliability has gone up a lot. Only thing I don't like about them is that they're fat.
