^^^^it's true, BMW maintenance isn't that bad, especially if you do your own work.

Instead of a BMW Mini I'd suggest a BMW BMW, like a 3-series. Insurance isn't too bad and the power isn't insane, but the handling is awesome and the ride is superb. You can get an e46 or e36 in your price range.

sorry man, i missed your post before or I would have included in my previous post. I don't know how your rates are, but my buddy in college had an 89' RX-7 GTU. he had minimum coverage, which i know some ppl are reluctant to get, but he only paid $35 a month. plus, there is a forum, exact same format as the evom (www.rx7club.com). if your budget is 13k, you could easily find one in great shape for about 4-5k. plus parts for it are dirt cheap. there are guys that have ten RX7's laying around in barns that are looking to sell parts. we did an engine overhaul for $800. (no it wasn't a short block) good luck hunting, let us know what you decide
