Does it have to be a Mustang GT? Personally I'd rather get a Mach 1 and put on some mods from there. Its probably right in your price range, and it's really close to/faster than 03-04 Cobra times, but without forced induction. Motortrend tested an 03 5-speed and achieved a 13.2 in the 1/4. Thats not bad at all for a 4.6 litre. Just my 2 cents.

My vote, being a current mustang owner, would have to be a 96-98 Cobra. You can find super nice ones now for under $10k. That leaves you plent of room to work.

That said, The 4 valves are durable as all hell. If you do buy one, get one of those. the bottom end is Safe for 800 HP. 1000 is where you start really pushing the bottom end on a driver. also, the T56 in the later cars (not sure which got the six speeds) can handle some serious abuse as well. just watch out for halfshafts on the irs cars.
Thats funny, my car doesn't squat and dive, doesn't run 14's(on a bone stock 5.0 motor, at that), and probably brakes better than your Evo.

Thats actually really pathetic, most 03/04 Cobra's are 12.8-12.9 cars off the showroom floor with a driver mod. Evan J. Smith, editor of Muscle Mustangs, ran a 12.67 with an 03, bone stock off the showroom floor.

03-04 cobras were the only ones supercharged from the factory

I wouldn't call 13.2 "pathetic". Sure its a half second off of 12.6, but remember the Cobra is supercharged compared to the N/A Mach 1. And also consider that most tests show the new GT500 as a high 12 second car. So to be over/under that by 2 or 3 tenths of a second to the 500 hp Shelby, either with the 03-04 Cobra or Mach 1, you really can't go wrong.

03-04 Cobras are so easy to make stupid fast. Pulley, exhaust, retune and you're trapping 120-125.

Terminators are a good bang for the buck. I owned an LS! Z28, and from my experience I would opt for an LS1 over a ford anyday. 2002 Z28SS FTMFW!

junk if you want a s/c mustang get a 03-04 cobra, its built better for it unless the gt is already built. which in that case does it have the cobra tranny?

Right, I wasn't referring to the 13.2 as an overall time for most cars being pathetic, but for an 03/04 Cobra it is.

The T-56 transmission is a bolt in for 96-01 Cobra's and Mach's though.

If ford started with 200 cc alum heads, 2 inch valves , 346 inch 10.1 comp, internally balanced , 75mm t/b & air meter , up to date computer, all we would need is a cam and headers too. The Cobra's and GT's are 281 cubic inches. I'm not taking anything away from an LSX though, they are bad bad motors. The cylinder head design from GM is nothing short of incredible.

If I was you and I want a muscle car I would go for a GN. These cars have real cojones in stock form and big cojones with minors mods.

A GN could be a 11sec car 1/4 mile with a small budget and the appeal of a GN compare to the 00-04 is ..well.. no comments.

I have a few local friend from a local car club(sonoranmusclecars.com) that have S/C on their GT, they are quick but they are a Mustang which means there are everywere.

my .2c

Get this and build the tranny...just ask for a compression check and a build sheet

I prefer an automatic...lets face it...no twisties with a mustang...which is fine...the Evo is good enough....the Auto will give you an edge on the straight.

Just what I would go for.

OR get a Camaro...swap the block with the new LSX (http://pprod.gmgoodwrench.gmgssm.com...6454&engCat=ls)
High flow Heads+ cams+ high compression piston....a recipe for destruction ..if you get bored spray it ( the best for high compression engine) and your car will run 9s all day

this block is untouchable
