And we thought our Evos were "detuned"...

I stopped by the Mazda dealership to check out the RX8...pretty cool looking ride. Absolutely NO leg room in the back!! It has a flipup nav system. Base price of around 26k with the nav system and leather 32.5k

Anyways, maybe it's old news but I thought they were supposed to have 250HP...Seems like they are only coming with 207...talk about over hype of the HP...

That's the automatic model. The six speed is 250 HP. High reving engines and conventional automatic transmissions don't work well. There are rumors of an SMG transmission for a future model with the high output engine.

the mazdaspeed protege isn't all that great, its a 120hp turbocharged car... take out the turbo the engine makes what... 70hp? though it is nice looking and priced more reasonable than some others in its class

love the look of the RX8 but it's in need for some more power. It's the low man on the todem pole and everyone is going to beat ya down (SRT4, EVO, STi, Mustang GT, S2000, 350z...etc).

I guess we'll wait for the next gen RX7 or MazdaSpeed RX8 and see if Mazda can give us a car to fear.

I read in several magazines that the ports in the new engine weren't working correctly in the test models, so actually hp numbers at the wheel and 1/4 mile times aren't available from the testers.

Check a back issue of Super Street. They said that soon as they noticed that the high-ports weren't openning then the RX-8 was pulled from them.

I was curious so I looked for some numbers on the RX-8 and some on the Mustang GT and S2000. It looks like it does ok against the S2000 and I'm pretty sure it will do fine against Mustang GTs from some of the info I found. It may even do ok against G35 coupes. With the cars that I put in this post it really does look like it comes down to the drivers.

The Rx-8 isn't too bad..pulling 250hp outta NA with a pretty light car...is right around the s2k's competition!!! I wouldn't try and really say a Evo could demolish a Rx-8.. noticing the differnt % loss of hp on both the cars... the Rx-8..whp..shouldn't be too weak..

WTF, 271HP put down to AWD. Why are some people so hooked on drivetrain loss? They forget the AWD will move quicker. Check every mag's time on RX-8. Also, it only has 160 ft/lbs torque. I'm not braggin when I'm saying the 'Evo will demolish a Rx-8'.

I think the RX-8 is a gorgeous car. I'm sure they'll make a turbo model in a few years. Performance-wise, the two can't compare.
