03-04 SVT Cobra vs. E46 M3
i would much rather own a quality made, comfortable german luxury sports car then a impulsive american muscle weekend warrior dragster. lol
but overall…both cars have their own ‘cool’ factors…so i wouldn’t mind being seen in either one…

hmm does everyone only care about power and 1/4 miles times.....
not sure how the gear ratios are on the Cobra but im pretty sure the M3 has a higher top speed and im positive the M3 can run circles around the cobra at a track that actually has turns and at the end of the day you drive home in a nice comfy chick magnet while the other guy is still in a ford.
i know i drive a 240 in no way a chick magnet most women wouldnt like it but hey i love it yes my 5 series DD is a better car but i love my 240 so if you like your mustang who cares what anyone else says but dont compare the two they are two different beast's

Saw this same poll on Supraforums, and I'll copy my reply.
Personally I would buy the Cobra. Cheaper maint, faster for less $, less refined but more aggressive, it gets my vote.
I love the E46 M3, but 100% of the people I know who have owned one have either criticised the lack of build quality / lack of ***** (coincidentally, all commentary coming from former MKIV owners).
If this was a vote for which we'd rather DD, it'd be the E46 M3 hands down.

one other thing...
anyone that has a bmw,benz,vw,etc... just wait until your MIL lights up. You like to work on your own car? oh, no...not on these cars. If you don’t own a OEM scan tool..you are not going to fix anything on those cars....if you want to take your car to the dealership for everything and just have them do minor installs, thats all your going to get.
Fords on the other hand, have alot of aftermarket support, and I think the DOHC v8 in the terminators are every bit as mechanically advanced as the inline 6 bmw has been using forever.

what a dumb poll..it all depends on what u want. and based off that alone..you have your decision. Since he said he is willing to sacrifice interior quality (sounds like he's sat in 1 before?)....cobra. Cheaper to mod, cheaper to maintain, 1 of the meanest sounding V8s and its basically an american supra. If you want a more comfy DD and have $$$ to cough up when it comes to maintainance, go for the m3. I personally hate bmw's. I think their interiors suck *****, their gauges are butt ugly, expensive to own, and it just doesnt do it for me. Not even the m5s or the m6s. A guy near me owns a VERY clean all-black cobra with exhaust. It turns heads everytime with the extremely mean rumble
for luxury and power.....out of these two, i would go M3 as a DD.

For easy power and as a second car, the Cobra

Hehe, you guys are too much. I especially like all the guys who think that the Cobra is too heavy, built for drag racing, and can't handle worth crap. Since SVT put an IRS in the Cobra, it was obviously not built just for drag racing (reason why I have one in my GT now). The aftermarket for the cobra is easily 10 times bigger than the M3 and the parts are probably half as much. If you spent the same amount on both cars, you could get the cobra plus numerous mods for the same price as a used M3.
I know for a fact that you can buy either a 700whp cobra with a turbo, built motor and built suspension, or a completely stock cobra with 3k miles on it, for the same price as a stock M3 with 30-40k miles on it.
As for a daily driver? Still taking the cobra. I know many guys that daily drive their Cobras. Some are almost stock. A friend of mine daily drove his 600whp kenne bell cobra. Another friend of mine went on vacation to florida from maryland in his 700whp turbo cobra. Just turned down the boost and didn't have a single problem. Oh yeah, and he built the entire car himself in his garage at home.
Of course I'm biased, but I just don't see the point in buying an expensive, underpowered car as a status symbol to say "hey look at my Bimmer". I hear people have all kinds of issues with them that cost thousands to fix at the dealers. With a mustang, you can pretty much diagnose any problem you want and fix it yourself.
On a final note, look up the price of a whipple supercharger, then the price of a active autowerk turbo kit. The whipple will get you 600whp easy. The AA kit might get you 450whp.

No, it can't, according to both Car and Driver and Road & Track. The Cobra's limited to the same 155 as the M3.
