Mazda Furai Concept

Check this concept out, the you will either love or hate the looks.

What I find amazing is that this concept is actually based on a true racecar with ALMS credentials.

The Furai, which translates to "sound of wind", is built on a Courage C65 chassis that was campaigned by Mazda in the 2005 ALMS season. It features a fully-running three-rotor Mazda 20B rotary engine that runs on E100 ethanol and produces around 450 horsepower. The flowing shape of the Furai was co-designed by Mazda and Swift Engineering at Mazda's design studio in Southern California. Expect the full details and tons of photos when we see the car in person at the Detroit Auto Show in just a few weeks.

Hot as hell for a race car, I wonder what the street version looks like. I wouldn't want to be driving that thing around in that form but I bet the street version would be gorgeous.

Triple-rotory explosion FTW!

Someone should try photoshopping the first picture and move the badge just up on the "hood" instead of sticking out all weird on that pointy nose. That's my only real complaint.

Mazda just refuses to give up on the rotory, don't they? I agree with ^, a triple rotory explosion should be more impressive.

Definitely a sexy car, though. More companies should make cars with center driving positions, too. Screw practicality.

Not a production car so no crash test needed.
