What the hell is wrong with my car?

I have a 1998 Honda Accord LX 4cyl Auto, it has 125,000 miles on it and I am having a problem with it. I have had this car for 20,000 miles and it has given me no problems until now. On my way home on the highway my check engine light went on and now if I floor it, it will downshift however it will not exceed 3900-4000rpms. It almost feels like a fuel cut, once it downshifts and reaches 3900-4000rpms I will not only stop accelerating but it feels as if I hit fuel cut and it feels as if I have no more throttle... like I stepped off the gas. I do have oil leaking from my valve cover and it's dripping on my exhaust... I have no overheating, weird noises or anything. Any ideas? I was thinking it could be that I leaked too much oil and the ECU is trying to protect the motor by not letting it climb any higher than that RPM... the thing is though is it drives normal below that rpm and I can still get up to whatever speed I want to. Any ideas?

limp mode is what you're describing, it wont go past a certain rpm(different in every honda model), even in neutral.

sounds like a bad sensor or ecu issue.

normally id check you tps/ iac / iat / and your map sensors.

if u find nothing, or after replacing, id replace that ecu....

Maybe if your lucky......could be that their is something F**ked up inside your transmission also....the automatics use serval inputs from sensors which send them to the TCM. If any are off you will have problems like this. Just pray it isn't transmission. And yes hondas do have a type of limp home mode. It is almost required from the factorys. All it does is instead of running on a certain section within the ECU known as RAM. ROM is Read only memory which is troubleshooting for say inside the ECU incase something happens like a sensor goes down or forsay their is 2 ECT's. One reads 212 degrees and other -30. It will retrieve from ROM to see what to do then goes in default to get car to shop/home to keep people from being stranded. I hope i didn't confuse anyone. I'm a master tech what can i say....

RAM is only whatever the inputs give the computer... just get things straight...

The transmission shifts fine, a friend of mine said it was probably a cam position sensor gone bad, it ultimately lowered the redline or what it thinks to be the redline. $40 ish part... couple hundred in labor because it's inside the block.
