My 1982 BMW 320is

I just got my BMW out of storage this week for a car convention and thought I would share a couple pics. Let me know what you guys think. I know there are a few BMW guys on here.

Mods:

Engine: 1.8 Liter Bored and Stroke to 2.1 liter. 9.8:1 compression. Fully balanced and blueprinted engine. The intake manifold and valve covers are polished aluminum and not chrome. Full stainless exhaust including stainless headers.

Suspension: Bilstein shocks and Eibach Springs. Front and Rear strut bars. Battery located to back of the car for better weight distribution.

Other: Rear disc brake conversion done from Euro 323i. Car came with stock Recaro seats included with the sport package. Original Color but has been repainted.

Enjoy.

Thanks. I see you have an Henna M3. My Dad has an 89 E30 Black M3. Henna is my favorite BMW color.

Nice ride!
The best thing about cars from back then is all the room in the engine compartment. Hardly an electronic/computer gizmo to be seen. Those are the kind of cars that are fun to work on yourself .

Why go through all the motor work instead of doing a s50/s52 swap?

Multiple reasons.

1. I was young (17) back in 1998 and still in highschool when I did it and did not know anyone who had done an engine swap for this car yet. Kind of a daunting task for me to tackle.

2. I still wanted to keep the car close to original.

3. I found a company that had an engine package for the car and it fit my budget and my needs.

The car is relatively fast. It went from 90 hp to around 150. Those numbers are estimates from the engine builder and mean nothing. The car is really light and I have had it to a few BMW drivers schools. It can keep up with almost all E30's and E36's minus the M cars on a track and that is good enough for me. I have contemplated doing an engine swap in the future. BMW purists don't like to see those and I am planning on entering it in some Concours and other BMW shows.

150hp is plenty for that car - well done

The nice thing is it forces you to learn how to maintain momentum through the corners. You cant rely on massive hp and torque to propel you out of the corners. I have seen guys in M3 and M5's get passed by lots of old school bmw's (namely 2002's) mainly because they get to used to letting their engine get them out of the corners and not using momentum.

Yup - I wouldn't change a thing; except for the title if you ever wanted to sell it to me

Must be a blast at the track
