Dsm Guys, Help!
ok changed out front rotors and pads....drove to work the next day and all was fine. on the way home i started to hear this really bad grinding noise so once home i look at the rotor on the driver side and it is smoking, with a grove in it. it was only groved about 1/4 of the way however. which means that the rotor is wobbling somehow? right? also noticed that the abs gear looking thing is know moving. could this cause the problem? the little abs gear thing is i no way touching the rotor. so whats causing my rotor to move, bend rim, bent axle, warpped rotor which i doubt because its brand new. btw had to beat the crap out of the rotors to get them off, this one in particular kinda split in half, could i have bent the axle
really need help guys everyday the tsi is down equals more miles on the evo

What year is your DSM, many of them did not have ABS, my 95 gsx does not have it. To see if you have the ABS modele look from underneath of the driver side corner on the bumper, you should see a square aluminim looking box with some brake lines (on the 1 gen I think is located near the battery) or also look at the rotor/spindle assy, it should have the detents for the ABS sensor.
After doing the pads and rotors have you messed with the bleeding at all? You might have a semi stuck piston causing uneven wear.
Look at your calipers, they shoould be Sigma. Anyway, if you need calipers I have 2 full sets and also rotors as well.

You could always spin your hub and see if it's wobbling..
I go with Carlos to check on that ABS status as well.
You could have warped/bent a wheel stud, but after tightening the wheel on it should straighten itself out.
I vote for an f'ed up caliper and uneven clamping.

I re-read your thread one more time just to cover one more time all the possible aspects.
You mentioned that the car was making a bad grinding noise, that could also be that during the install of the rotors and pads you actually hit the mud shield that protects the rotors. The clearance is minimal and the thicknest of the metal is minimal( very thin) making it easy to bend(I have done it before).
The grinding sound could also be generated by a improper install of the pads clips, in some cases they actually touch the rotors as well.
Secondly, since you mentioned that the car actually smoked while braking makes me incline to think that you might have a leaky caliper which is leaking through the pads and thorugh the rotors thus when it gets heated up by normal braking it smokes and smells. This also indicates what I told you earlier about uneven pressure from the caliper.
We still need to know if you are running the single or dual piston caliper. Keep us informed.
