love my RA, but now thinking of GTI
as i said earlier, was seriously considering a cooper S this fall (keeping my ra of course) but also like the golf gti..i had a vw rabbit 20yrs ago..it was a cool little car and fun as hell to drive-like a go- cart....anyone had any experience with the gti?
GTIs are pretty nice, I've repossessed quite a few of them. It depends on what year you are looking at... but you should be looking at 150HP minimum. The GTIs also are pretty reliable, just watch out for the starters (which go out pretty frequently) and transmission (transmissions like to go out at 80,000+ miles).
If your in no rush to get a new car.. wait a bit
Atleast for the official information on the Scirocco

VW of America has not made an official announcement stating the Scirocco will not be sold in America... so there is hope for this beast of a machine to be sold next to the GTI

Performance wise the Mini cooper S and the GTI are just a drop of water, nearly identical however the mini cooper S has even better gas mileage(about 20% better).
Ultimately I believe the Mini would be the winner here if you decide to go for the modding route, the mini 2600lbs curb weight would be enhanced more with aftermarket brakes or power mods for the simple math of power to weight ratio, the VW is 3300lbs...
If you get the Cooper S try to get the turbo instead of the S/C, the turbo is more refine, better gas mielage and makes more power with the mods. If you decide to get the GTI please get the DSG, it is plain and simple faster, better on gas mileage and is equipped with launch control...

My wife has a GTI and loves it. I put on a JUNB.L exhaust system with a tune and the cars runs like a mad man.. I would say drive both and also look at the R32. It's AWD.. Good luck in what ever you buy.
