I'd go with an 03/04 Cobra w/ a Kenne Bell upgrade, but if you're big on the new body style then buy a GT and get a Kenne Bell supercharger for it. If you don't care at all what the car looks like but you want to have some cheap RWD fun, get an older fox body mustang (1989-1993). For less than $7k (parts and car) I build one that would run low 13s on the quarter mile on street tires with a mild launch and get 20mpg as a daily driver. Ugly, didn't handle all that well, but fun to raise hell in...

I won't ramble on about other cars, since you're asking about Mustangs, but a friend of mine bought a used automatic tranny LS1 Camaro (his was a '99) for less than $7k and bought a Vortech supercharger kit that came with a preloaded reflash tool. With just the supercharger kit, no exhaust upgrade, it was running solid 12.6-12.7 at 113 mph (street tires) on the quarter mile and was very street friendly. I don't care for those cars myself but its hard to argue with the numbers...

MUSTANG GTs vs COBRA is like Lancer vs. EVO. get a Cobra or move onward with thinking and leave mustangs alone. IMO men drive Cobras, women drive Mustang GTs. unless its 5.0 era or older

For the money they charge on a Roush, you'll be better off getting a standard GT and doing all the work yourself.

Ok my first recommendation for a fun RWD would be an FD, I loved mine. If you don't trust rotaries just drop in an LS series engine.

Second would have to be a Terminator Cobra (03-04), IRS with a big bad supercharged v8... lots of fun to drive. Only problem is the cable linked clutch, get stuck in traffic and your left leg goes numb, haha.

Third, find a used 05 and up Mustang GT... they are a dime a dozen, then just drop in a nice turbo kit. I just installed a Hellion kit on one a couple weeks back, great fit and finish. Those 3v 4.6L respond very well to boost.

Just some friendly advise.

I checked out a stage 2 at a dealership (suspension and body kit, no motor work) and it was a total turd. They said I could have it for about 32K (sticker is over 40), but that is too much for what it is. Suspension is very soft, and it makes a lot of noise but it is slow. I think my SUV is almost as fast lol. So now I am going to start checking out some other cars. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Miata + FMII turbo = 2200lbs with 250whp.

Throw some suspension on there and you have an insane DD.
