Car and Driver test reveals GTR was a lot of hype
^^ Don't be discourage to get the GTR, I see in your signature that you are trying to get one next year. Back in the day I spent a few weeks my self trying to get one GTR but I wasn't lucky with the prices, I quickly realized that the mark up was all across the board nationwide and that is when I drifted away from buying the GTR. I still wished I had a GTR in my garage but can't complain with the Z06 either.
Just like you said and like whtevo05 (Frank-GTR owner), the inconsistency of the road test makes you have your reservations of the true performance numbers which includes dyno numbers.
To me, as we speak I think that even a Evo X MR with the proper supporting mods(turbokit) is actually a reasonable performance alternative instead of the GTR.

Carlos, wow, you freakin' amaze me dude. The way you spin things to look better or worse than what they really are astounds me. Are you sure weren't a politician in another life? Come on man, how can you start a thread calling the GTR all hype and use an article comparison that rates the GTR 1st in the comparison? Obviously despite it sluggish acceleration numbers, Car and Driver still didn't think it was all hype when they picked it first. By the way where did your Z06 rate in this comparison, um fourth place out of four cars.
What is it with you? Did you just choose to not read the article and skip straight to the performance data? Seriously dude, the numbers can vary from car to car, Car and Driver even states this in the article "And while earlier GTRs we've tested outpaced everything here, this particular silver example was a relative woofer. It was the only car in the test - and the only GTR we've tested - needing more than four seconds to hit 60mph and more than 12 seconds to reach the 1/4 mile" (Car and Driver). Like I said the numbers can always vary, and this the same for every car especially one that is tested and compared as often as the GTR and the Z06, yup the Z06. I do believe a comparison test in Road Track magazine called "World Superpowers" tested the Z06 at 12.2@118mph, by far one of the slower times I've seen out of a Z06. So if even the numbers can vary on a Z06 they can vary on anything else including a GTR. Also when we think of varations, don't get things mixed up, the 12.6@111mph ran by the GTR in test is by far the slowest time I've seen yet, with every other test putting the GTR in the 11s trapping anywhere from 116mph to 124mph. If you really pay attention and read car mags as religiously as I do, you will see that these varations are not un-common at all.
Also despite the weight, the lack of power, this woofer some how still managed a way to once again turn in quicker lap times than the Z06, please don't forget that. Also while this test was awesome, two of these cars are souped up versions of already awesome vehicles (911 and SRT-10). A better match up would be the Corvette ZR1, Viper ACR, 911 GT2, and GTR EVO. Even a Corvette Z06, GTR, Viper SRT-10, and 911 Turbo would have been a better match up. But better for who, the GTR still wins.

^^True. That is why these comparos are very subjective, on the previous comparo the new M-3 was choosen the best against the GTR and it was because comfort and being more practical, even though the GTR outperformed the M-3.
It looks like it depends on what car magazine editor's criteria, if this was about performance for the price then obviously the Porsche would be out of the equation since at least the Z06 does almost the same for less than half of the price. Apples with apples and the z06 should be in the same basquet price with the GTR, the Viper and the Porsche has the unfair price advantage. I guess that you can say that I was waiting for the oportunity to prove that this car (GTR) initials results were not the definite/final numbers..

The new GTR reminds me so much of five years ago when the Evos first arrived in the States. Give the enthusiast's community a chance to embrace the GTR then come back and compare. We just know that these cars have a strong running reputation in Japan and other countries and we know those reputation is not based on hype. The potential of these Japanese supercars are unmatched, imo. Give it some time and we'll get to really experience the true potential of the GTR.
It's an ACR Viper. Definitely not a street friendly car. Basically a street car tuned into a track car; no sound insulation, no heat insulation, no A/C, and you have to take off the front splitter to drive on the street or risk ripping it off.
My Evo has no interior, no cat and scrapes often, I still drive it on the road. When it comes to a rocketship for fun car those kinda things don't really matter that much to me. Give and take, you know
Agreed that putting it in a fight with a GTR is somewhat silly, but hey, I did'nt put the comparo together.
Whatever the version of the Viper is....It appears to be brutally fast from this test. Never would have thought that it would take the braking test.
I think its dumb to compare cars like this. Sure they offer the same performance but a porsche has a higher price for a reason. The steering feel, pedals, and the quality of the car are better. I sure would not choose a gtr over a porsche.
Sure at 70k the gtr is a great performing machine and i would love to own one but its in a different class than a porsche or viper. And thats why i feel these comparisons are dumb. No one with enough money to by a porsche or viper would choose a gtr instead, well unless they could afford both.
A gtr and zo6 makes sense tho because they are in the same price range and offer the same performance.

I am sorry but after watching the video and having the magazine on hand I just can not understand/comprehend or make any logical sense on why the GTR was chosen number one, what was the criteria? the title says extremist, that should be the Viper no?. They just don't explain it.

Though I'm not too concerned with the Car and Driver review, I am dissapointed in the Top Gear "Bullet Train vs. GTR" episode. Jeremy will usually go on and on about the car he is driving, but he did not have much to say about the GTR. I know the show is for entertainment purposes and that a track test is coming later in the season, but he did not seem to like the car. I have heard/read many reviews that state that the GTR is incredibly fast and precise but a little bit less intense to drive because it takes care of so much for you. I guess I will have to tune in for their track test.
