Mazda revises RX8 power figures

You'd think after the problem with the Miata, that this wouldn't happen.

I wonder if would have the ***** to do this if it's power figures were a bit optimistic?

Wow, it must suck to be a torqueless rotory head!

That car is pretty nice, but sucks that Mazda overrated it!

3 words:

"Rotary"

"No"

"Turbo"

That is why! The rotary engine's major drawback is that it produces amazing, Honda B-series torque numbers!

Well for 30,000 dollars, you could go for the 350Z with 289 hp, or the 238 hp and no torque rotary? I think rotary engines are cool, but only becasue they are different and unique. I know that the RX-7 was a great car, but to follow up the RX-7 with a NA rotary in a car that faces much more competition on its class now then the last generation did seems to be the beginings of a huge mistake. There needs to be some turbo power in that motor to really place that car in its rightful place for the image of Mazda. If Mitsubishi can bring the EVO with AWD and 271 hp to the states for under 30,000, I don'e see why for 4,000 more Mazda can't produce a turbo version of the RX-8 that puts out 300 hp. It seems like they really shot themselves in the foot on this one.

I read in car and driver that the RX-7 will return in 2005 or so, depending on the success of the 8. Turbocharged with 300 hp, 2 seater coupe with a decent weight reduction. The image looked like an improvement on the past 7, very sexy.
