It's funny, I've thought about building a truck quite a few times and never have. Now all of us are looking at this wanting one!

I've got adapter plates now for the EVO7-8-9 engines to bolt a GM trans onto them. Drop an EVO engine in one of these and a strong manual 5 speed, man would that be a good time.

Hi all,
Mike The Owner here, Yes, David (Trent) is doing a bang up job.

On the subject of Bonneville I noticed some small misconceptions so I'll clear it up.

here's the official wording from the Rule Book.
"The straightaway speed course, conditions permitting, will be an overall distance of at least seven miles. If conditions permit, there will be two courses available.

A "short" course of three miles for vehicles under 175-mph, and a "long" course of five miles for vehicles over 175-mph.

The "short" course will consist of an approach of two miles from the starting line and two timing traps placed as follows: one trap timing the first quarter-mile of the third mile and a second trap timing the full third mile.

The "long" course will consist of an approach of two or three miles from the starting line to three timing traps placed as follows:

the first trap timing the full third mile, the second trap timing the full fourth mile and the third trap timing the full fifth mile.

The short course will generally consist of a portion of the long course.

Determination of the number of courses and procedures to be used will be made at the beginning of the event and may be changed at any time at the sole discretion of the Contest Board due to weather conditions or safety considerations.

All vehicles, except streamliners must exceed 175-mph in the first timed quarter mile of the "short" course before competing on the "long" course.

Vehicles that have exceeded 175-mph in the quarter may be timed through the full five miles of the long" course at the driver's option.

A record is established by a two run average over the same relative or physical mile, depending upon course length and direction."

The mile events (ECTA, Texas Mile & El Mirage) use a 132 foot trap at the end of the Mile to determine the speed.

Welcome to the site!
I hope to some day turn my Evo into a 1 mile car or salt flat car and I wouldn't take it anywhere else! Great choice!
Buschur FTW!

Thanks for joining in Mike. I'm glad you are happy with the work so far on the truck. Final pictures should be up early this coming week, a few wires to connect and then I guess we'll find out how much power it's going to make! You wanna be here to watch the dyno runs?

The truck is finished, all except for the tuning. Here is the finished product. I think it came out freakin' sweet. Should be getting it on the dyno next week.

After you're done at the salt flats next time around you should take it just down the road (I80) and hit up Miller Motorsports Park too! Make it one big ol' racing trip!

It's funny how boring (other than being so incredibly flat) the salt flats look 90% of the time, but then there's those times were it has water on it (which is kinda cool looking) and those times were it is loaded with cars for the salt flat races, and the few times that there are car commercials shooting there. Especially when Pontiac (I think it was them, there's been a few out here) is shooting one and somehow manages to crash all of their first run cars into each other and it is all over the local news

GL Mike and Dave, the car (truck...) is looking awesome! Can't wait to see what it puts down, what a cool build.

Well the numbers are sorta in..... The engine made 219HP and 225 ft/lbs of torque at 5400 RPM with 8 lbs of Boost.

David put in a boost controoler to bring it up to 14lbs and he couldn't keep it hooked up to the dyno to get a good reading. either the skinny tires were slipping, or the clutch was, I didn't smell the clutch. The AEM and Dyno were off by at least 1K in rpm. David tried a few other things with the dyno but to no avail.

So using raw math and kentucky windage(internet calculators), with 219 HP at 8 lbs (7 and change really) it should be laying down approx 325HP at 14lbs.

Now that I have that, I run over to another site

http://www.mayfco.com/dragcoef.htm

with Cd/frontal area to HP needed for a particular speed.

I put the Truck down for a Cd of .45, that of a Montero, the site doesn't have Mighty Max numbers, but it does have a nice list of Mitsubishi's, no EVO's, sorry.

The Frontal area is roughly 21 sq/ft giving me a number of 9.45 (Cd x A) to apply to the appropriate chart (see web site)

The chart says I should go between 160 and 165MPH before I can't overcome the aero loading of the truck.

I'll report back after the meet the first weekend in April with actual performance.

your mileage may vary, tax title and gratuity not included.
