370z is pretty fast around a track
Just got the new Road & Track. The 370Z did a 1:28.30 at Streets of Willow. They tested it against a 2008 Cayman S, which turned a 1:28.91.
For reference, Edmunds Insideline got a 1:31.89 for an Evo IX, 1:32.42 Evo X MR, 1:32.51 X GSR.

The entire X issue in stock form is the ECU restricted program. Once you throw in a Cobb tuning thing, the car immediately transforms into another car. A friend of mine has one and felt it that way and now it goes fast with only that addition.
On the 370z subject, it not only the engine that has a bit more power, but the car is lighter along with other known improved virtues. Also, and very important and also very underrated piece of information, the new 370z has in stock form a final drive of almost 3.7. On the 350z MT, the final drive was 3.54. And this does make a difference. I installed a set of 3.92 gears on my 350z and transformed the car completely. What was a sluggish (not exactly slow) car in stock form now felt brisker and eager with more accelerative force also. 1/4 times on that alone decreased by 0.3 seconds.
So yes, the 370z looks to be a well thought and engineered car by people that now very well the 350z’s shortcomings.

That is what I call respect with capital letters!! The 370Z earn its own merit on the performance category. Those 14" brake system and great power distribution make a big difference.

Reference I suppose, but I would rather see the times compared with the same driver, same day.

The times Edmunds got for the Evos are about spot on with what I've seen very experienced drivers get out of stock Evos at the same track. I ran a 1:32 with a passeneger, about 280-300whp, -3 degrees of camber front, -1.5 rear, and rear trailing arm and bump steer bushings.
I think could shave off another 3-4 seconds by ditching the passenger (~1 sec?), there are two to three sections of the track I should be using 2nd gear, but I just leave it in 3rd (~1-2 sec?), I could also carry more speed through the chicane (~1 sec?).
Regardless, I haven't seen any faster times for stock Evos than what Edmunds got.
