The wrx is faster than the sti 0-60 and just as fast in the 1/4 mile.

Moved to "other cars".

FWIW, I'd be just as happy with a WRX vs a STi.

im pretty sure the 0-60 advantage comes from the 5sp v 6sp in the sti. beyond that i got nothing. my nod goes to the sti just because its wider

Hands down; STi. It's worth the trans, brakes, wheels / tires, diff, etc.

I re-read your original question, "What are your thoughts for 24,000"

Not too bad. What model WRX? 4 door or 5 door?

For $27K ish, you could most likely pick up an '08 X GSR

No doubt, the latest '09 WRX is heading in the right direction. The '08's were a disaster.

Yes, the WRX is just as fast, but it doesn't have as strong forged internals, Brembo brakes, bulletproof trans, stronger axles and a whole bunch of other stuff. The WRX is great for the price, but if you can afford the STi, I would get that if you are going to modify it.

The STI has much better transmission, brakes, suspension, and so on. It's worth the extra money. The WRX has a glass 5-speed transmission and everything else is inferior to the STI.

only thing i like about subi's is the sound. :P

other than that there's like 4-5 sti's a week in my shop with bad tranny's. lol.
i know that wasn't really any input. just talking randomly. hah.

i prefer evo's all around, over subi's any day.

if you're talking about the new sti vs new wrx, i'd take the 09 wrx hands down.

the 08/09 sti is very "soft", power delivery was terrible, & its roughly 10k more than the 09.

the 09 has better response & would be more comparable to the older models. with a simple turboback exhaust & a tune with a little suspension mods, you'd be right up there with the sti as far as power/handling

I was going to look at the wrx premium, but all the motor issues scared me away. If they fixed the motor issues (which i have'nt heard they had) and could get a premium for around 25k, I would think about it. I have'nt heard anything about the 2010's yet, maybe they will fix them...
