E36 M3
E36 M3
As a previous M3/4 owner, I have always loved the e36 M3.
Today I was looking at beautiful example of a 2dr M3 coupe. This particular car, a 1997 with full Dinan S2 package, was a special order car with gray alcantara bolsters and headrest, with cloth inserts in magenta and violet patterns on dark charcoal. It had also been ordered with red BMW motorsport seatbelts, and the alloy interior trim kit. Although most of the M3's came with leather, this cloth combo is absolutely cool, and this one was in perect condition.
The car was Daytona violet which offset the interior nicely, and it had the split rear seats. I have to say that this car was one of the nicest M3's I have seen to date, and it had right at 40,000 miles on the od.
I love my Evo, but have to say that this car has me re-thinking.....its just the package and my love of M3's I guess!

You would have to see this particular car...luxury does not come to mind....not at all really. Its just a cool car...cooler than the Evo in my book. Thats just personal preference bleeding through, so don't flame me on that one, as I think the Evo is also awesome or I wouldn't have it sitting in my garage.
Btw- Having owned an e36m3 and an MCoupe, and now an Evo I am fully aware of the power differences and tuning potential. I am not really suggesting any preference for the M3 because of power, thats for sure, but the E36 M3 is one of the few cars that truly exhibits neutral handling characteristics similar to the Evo. The main thing I liked about this car is just that it was not only a nicely maintained example, but a fairly rare combination of color and interior appointments.

Seriously though drummerjun, I didn't have a cam on me the day I saw the car, so sorry about that. Don't necessarily think that makes the post worthless though

A lot of them are stuck with the "class" mentality. They think since they drive a BMW, they are in a higher class than others. Give me a break, I love BMW's but some BMW owners do make a lot of others look bad, especially the true BMW enthusiasts who are neither social yuppies or stuck up pompous douches.
This is one of the reasons I have had difficulty going back to a BMW. Too many poseurs that don't know anything about the heritage of BMW giving everyone a bad rep.
Think many of these new world Bimmer owners would want to own a 2002? Doubtful that many even know what they were, but those little cars were what saved BMWs ***. I used to love the 2002 and have wrenched on, rebuilt, and owned a few myself back in the day.
I remember reeling-in a 540 sport that passed me in my stage 3 WRX. After I blasted past him, I slowed and waited for him to pass. He wouldn't look at me...imagine that??
I still think the old E30 and E36 M3's can be pretty cool cars...and that MCoupe...yeah!!
