Nice. Street legal go-cart.

But a 1975 lb car vs. soccer mom in a 5700 lb Expedition.

If you ever get a chance to drive one of these take it! This car is aimed at a completely different market than the Evo (not to overstate the obvious) so some of us may not appreciate the car as much is it deserves, but man this car would fly! It'll walk away from the Evo on the track with equal drivers. I would love to have one in my garage as a third on forth car just to through some R compound tires on the car and kick the crap out of everthing on the track everyone once and a while.

Picture this for a second...... Take that car and put the evo drive train and motor in it......... that would be a sick car!!!!

First point - Walk on the US spec Evolution maybe but in the Top Gear and EVO tests I have read the VIII has been faster.

Second point - that is about what I want to do! I have some specs I wrote for the car I want to build, it will be something very similar to an elise but with the Evolution VIII AWD and 6 speed, 350mm, 6 piston AP Racing brakes, and a very highly tuned 2.5L MIVEC (FTO 2L with rpw 2.5 conversion) getting somewhere around 200kw.

Aston

Edit : reason I chose 2.5L MIVEC is at least 8500rpm redline (after mods) and 200kw (even with less torque) + no weight = still very fast, probably mid 12s 1/4.

Looks like it has the same steering wheel as the evo. Very similar.

This car is far from girly.

Someone was figuring out a way to set up an Impreza RS drive line and motor in a miata at one time. Not sure if it ever got finished. That would be pretty cool too. Nice platforms to work with on both sides. 240 HP in an Elise would be pretty cool too. I still am a fan of the AWD thing though.

You could drive circles around an SUV. With the handling of the Elise you wouldn't have too many worries.

You're going to die driving that car if your ever hit buy anything bigger than a Civic. Plan your funeral now.

Far too many people with $38,000 that can't handle a car with a power-weight ratio like this. 190hp and 2000lbs and good handling = recipe for disaster in the hands of the avg. driver.

has anyone heard how they make this car? besides the obvious thing of being hand made, all the parts in the chassis are held together by a special glue and bolts. they say it is sturdier than welding.. crazy stuff right there!

I didn't read the article you are referring to but I assume it's the 130hp elise. w/ toyota powerplant, it will be a different story.

Has anyone thought of the possibilities of turbocharging this car? I mean they have kits for celica, right? man... it will be so fast. Just think 400hp and 1900lb.

there is a Elise 135 with 160hp and the S1 model a S190 and the Exige which both put out 190hp and only weigh 1600lbs.

But any how there is a 500hp 1900lb Lotus Elise. Some crazy europans swapped the Audi S4 engine into the Elise S2.

personally I've decided to pass on the EVO for now and go with the Elise. I had hope to get both but financials aren't working out that way.

I'll pick up a used EVO or EVO GT-A if it ever makes it to the US as a commuter car.
