Carmax

Anyone have any experience dealing with them? Looking to buy a new car and since I'm stationed overseas, I'm looking for someplace with more selection then we have here.

My ex bought her TSX from there, it was a decent experience as far as used car dealers go... They aren't as good as they claim, but they certainly aren't horrible.

Thanks for the reply man. I'm a little leary over buying a car I have never driven or seen in person and shipping it across the ocean lol. I know they claim they do a multi-point check of all used vehicles they sell. How was the car mechanically?

Car was great mechanically. I remember it had some problem that came up, but CarMax resolved that.

If you are buying it sight-unseen, have someone nearby go look at it and drive it for you (namely in the Evo community). I did that for a guy looking for an S2000 at the CarMax here. It's really hard to say how they are everywhere though, since it is a chain dealership. I know the sales people here and the mechanics are all complete morons, at least they have been the past few times I've dealt with em.

They do a multi-point inspection, dunno how good it is, I imagine it is better than most used car dealerships, but probably nothing amazing. Definitely aren't going to know/notice if the clutch is slipping or if the TC whines...

See, thats what worries me. Even with their checks, I'm sure they're not gonna know the little things that are warning signs of impending disaster lol. But again man, thanks for the info. Stil debating what i will, if I do buy from them get. I've got about 10 months to figure it out. But those months will be somewhere sandy and hot so I'm strying to do the leg work now.

My experience was pretty good. I got to test drive my 02 Z06 for about 30 minutes before I laid down money. Any dealer that lets you do that is golden in my book!!

Or hurting for sales... I've test driven all sorts of cars that wouldn't normally allow a 20 something year old kid who looks 16 test drive em... all you have to do is go to shady used car dealerships.

Not knocking CarMax, but I wouldn't put "letting me test drive" at the top of the list of golden awards. The Subie dealer that let me test drive like 5 STis was by far the worst as far as sales team rip-off attempts go.
