All things being equal, the auto will win, but there are limitations to these transmissions. As the mods add up, the advantage will swing to the manuals because the autos just cannot handle a lot of power.

That seems like an unsubstantiated urban rumor. While the TC-SST has shown, in very limited circumstances, to flash the cool off or slow down messages, this excessive power has not resulted in damaged gearboxes or failed clutches.

The stock TC-SST can certainly handle as much if not more power than the stock GSR clutch can. I've seen countless threads where stock, un-mod'd GSR's [owners] have destroyed their clutch and absolutely none for the TC-SST.

Replacing the stock GSR clutch with something that can handle a lot more power is about the same cost as replacing the clutches in the TC-SST with SSP's clutch pack, Yes?

Road and Track did a test recently. They compared the Evo X's and Porsche Cayman's.

The Evo X average lap times
TC-SST:49.31
Manual 50.71

Porsche Cayman didn't show any laptimes for some reason. There was an acceleration chart as well.

Now, are the gear ratios the same? Idk enough about the X to know.
Also, it said the MR's tranny over-heated and would go into launch control after 6 runs and the Porsche started shifting slower and inconsistently. Time for the manual to catch up lol.

Thanks, now we are getting somewhere.

Gear ratios

SST:
1st gear - 3.655
2nd gear - 2.368
3rd gear - 1.754
4th gear - 1.322
5th gear - 1.008
6th gear - 0.775
Reverse - 4.011
Final drive ratio - 4.062

5MT:
1st gear - 2.857
2nd gear - 1.950
3rd gear - 1.444
4th gear - 1.096
5th gear - 0.761
Reverse - 2.892
Final drive ratio - 4.687

It seems if built properly, it can be used in endurance races without issues:

From best motoring:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrFWGfdTnk4

SST best time: 1:06.67
5MT best time: 1:06.90
(although the SST lost the race, the best lap counts the most)

They use both GSR for 5MT and SST, so there isn't unecessary 100lbs like USDM MR.

It would be great if we can get data on other cars as well.
