Question '91 Glanant GSX

Hey there! I was wondering if anybody had any opinions on the '91 Galant? I'm thinking about buying one and was curious what you knew. What about suspension, brake, and motor mods? I would rather do things right the first time than go back and take out parts that I already bought, ya know? I can't afford to keep redoing things on a car. Anyway, any help would be great!! Thanks.

Do you mean a Galant VR-4? Are you looking for a car that already has mods or a car that you would like to tune yourself?

Galant VR4's

They're not impossible to find but don't expect your search to be easy if that's what you're looking for. The total production run in the US in MY 91 was limited to 2,000 cars and 1,000 in '92. Great little sleeper though. I loves me some sleepers.

GSX vs. VR-4

There was actually a GSX Galant in '90, '91, and '92. The VR-4 was made in '91 and '92. I don't know much about the GSX except it was Motor Trend's Car of the year in 1990. Perhaps it was four wheel drive without the turbo.

Sounds like another great project car assuming it used a decent block to start with. Gonna have to look into that one. Thanks for the info!

Reeeally? Nifty...Maybe it's simply a a GSX like the Eclipse was: 4G63, turbo, AWD, but no AWD steering?

135hp awd galant. Shares the same 4cyl as the regular galant, just has awd added.

Either a GSX or VR4 will be my next car unless I have more money to spend.

Talking Went and bought it!

Well I took the plunge and bought the car today! The guy I bought it from was using it as his "extra" car for his rally prepped Glanant. He was reluctant to sell it, but gave me a good price once we started talking about rally stuff. Get this, he even offered to sell and install the adjustable struts that he has on his rally car, I think they were called GSX (?) with about 1,600 miles, for $350!

I've been driving the little beastie around all day and have to say I LOVE this car so far. It's not a powerhouse, but it handles great. Can't wait to get those adjustable struts on and see how it goes. Soooo happy!!

You are probably talking about AGX struts made by KYB. They are pretty decent for the price. Add some ground control coilovers and you got a pretty nice setup for less than $800.

The GSX to me seems more rare than the VR-4. I have only ever seen one. Anyway to those who are wondering, the Galant GSX indeed is an AWD, but does not have a turbo engine, so it has much lower horsepower than the VR-4. The gearing is different from the VR-4 as well.

In Katy there are 3 running VR-4's. Mine is the only one non-stock.

I'm running 18 psi with 22 degrees of timing and no knock. My Blitz power meter registered 261 hp to the wheels (up from 220 before I did a lot of tuning).

I am going to Houston Raceway this weekend to try and back up the power reading with a time slip.
On Saturday im competing in the SCCA autocross. You are welcome to meet up with us at either event.

Lookee here

A Galant GSX showed up in the shop today, so I snapped a few pics. Apparently there were less of these made/sold then the more powerful VR-4. Enjoy.
