How do you import a Nissan Skyline? (GTR34)
Ok so I've tried searching on here and even on google and some other sites. Just out of curiosity, what is the process for importing a Skyline GTR34. I have a friend in Japan (military) who bought one for about $4000(US dollars) and he is trying to get it imported but military won't work with him. I've seen in several threads that it has to be 20 years old and so on. I was wondering what it would take to import 1 and get it through customs. I know it has to pass safety and emmisions so you'd have to install airbags, windshield, smog equipment blah blah. But is it actually LEGALLY possible. Yes, I know this is a very expensive ordeal and some of you will state the obvious. Just curious if it is possible. Also, I would like it to be "street legal".
Thanks in advance for the input.

from what i understand, it cannot be done. all the ones that are over here now are getting seized with only a handful (literally a handful) that met the guidelines through some loophole that is no longer in effect. i've read that the ones that imported them "legally" (so they thought) are pretty much hiding them and keeping them safe from the feds.
also, the regulations are generation dependent. i think motorex (don't quote me) or some other entity actual crash tested the r33 so they have less trouble getting in than an r32 or r34.
then there's the geographical advantages/disadvantages of where you live. there are a lot of skylines floating around in other parts of the US other than CA. CA? don't hold your breath (8-10 years ago, maybe). so maybe you can luck out because i know of a handful of JDM cars running around in MD.
sorry i couldn't be of more help, but if you couldn't tell, i only have a very basic understanding (that could very well be wrong) of the subject. good luck! a $4K r34 would be too cool for school!
