My version of RVR Sports Gear (Eagle Summit TSI AWD - Sleeper)

I know that we do not get RVR Sports Gear in US, so I took Eagle Summit Wagon AWD and made my own version

I drove this wagon for 2 years, did some minor mods (EVO8 suspension, EVO3 radiator), but finally my clutch let go and I started the swap project. It took 18 month of on a off work, but I am finally done!

The mods:

Race block with forged pisons/rods
Rebuilt heads w/HKS 272 cams
Magnus Intake
Switzer COP ignition
2G DSM ECU with V3 ECM Link (running SD)
1G IRC race core FMIC with custom plumbing
Summit 5sp tranny with 4 spider center diff and DSM viscous coupling.
DSM ACT 2600 w/street disc and ACT FW

There were a ton of other other mods to make it all work

For now, I am runing 14b turbo and pump gas. Which gave me best et of 12.44 @106.6

But now, I need to improve on EVO8 suspension. I will start with camber plates and go from there. I would love to find an upgraded rear sway bar, but that is a long shot.

Thanks!

I picked up EVO8 suspension on this forum, probably the first time it was used in a van

Wow, nice work! Looks like a fun car.

Do you know approximately what the weight is?

Thanks! It is a lot of fun! Though kids are complaining about thier heads "pulling back" during 2nd gear pulls... 14b comes on very fast, adding to the fun factor

A week earlier, it was 3010lbs on a track scale (race weigt with me was 3220lbs). But that included more than half a tank of fuel.

On the night of these videos, the scale wasn't open. But I have removed:

Rear bench seat (like on all minivans, it is easily removable) 75 lbs.
Spare tire 35lbs.
3-4 gallons of fuel ~25 lbs
Lighter rims/tires ~30 lbs

So, the van weight must have been around 2850lbs. About the same as 1G DSM with minor weight savings.

My mom had a basic version of one of those vans.

It taught my family about the value of replacing the water pump while replacing the timing belt.

I want it to look as stock as possible, but this is far from "your mom's minivan"

I finally had a chance to take a long lunch and go to Granite State Dyno in Kingston NH.

This is 14b, starting at 27psi and quickly dropping to 13psi.

The van pulled 265hp off the street
Then 292hp with open exhaust
Lastly 303hp changing pump gas with 110 octane race fuel

I probably could have gotten another 10 hp from more tuning, but I had to get back to the office.

I finally upgraded my van to a 16G turbo. I didn’t expect such a small increase in turbo size to have such profound difference on the tune, but it did! I really had to tweak the fuel tables. But the biggest difference happens when I keep the exhaust cutout closed! The restrictive stock van exhaust really chokes the engine at high rpms!

Fist pass was 12.08 @113. I lost to a bracket 11.8xx muscle car, but that was a great, close race!

Second pass was: 12.2 @108 (missed 3/4 shift)

This would have been an awesome kill, if I didn't miss 1-2 shift. But still fun to watch

Next challenge: oval racetrack drags at Seekonk Speedway (Sunday at 5pm).

I had a great time at 20th DSM Shootout at Norwalk, OH! I chose to race in Max Effort class, because I have had some luck in this class before (taking 2nd place Dennis G., back in ’02 or ’03). I really wasn’t sure how this van would react to the AutoX, there isn’t any off the shelf modifications for this vehicle, everything I did to it, was adapted from other cars (mostly EVO8/9). But it did OK, good enough for 5th place among the autox cars and 3rd place overall in Max Effort (after drag racing times were added to the autox times).

This is one of my earlier autox passes (around 1:10)

And this is was one of my ¼ mile passes:

I would like to thank David Buschur for an awesome event (best shootout to date!). And ECM Tuning for sponsoring the Max Effort class!

I would also like to encourage more cars to race in the Max Effort! If a 12.0 minivan can take a trophy, so can many others! Give this class a chance it a TON of fun!

Great job! I saw your Summit at the Shootout last weekend - pretty impressive. I giggled at first when I saw it in the staging lanes -- then I saw your dial-in time and I realized you're quicker than my Evo. I shut up at that point.

Thanks! Though, in the interest of full disclosure, my dial in (11.99) was a bit optimistic, as my previous best was 12.08 . I hoping to break out, but that didn't happen
