Evo Owner Looking for a New Car, Need Advice!
Hello all,
I have owned my Evo IX SE for just over 4 years. I have put 28,000 miles on the car since I bought it used with 2,800 miles on it. It is my only 4 wheeled vehicle and I daily drive it, but do not have a long commute nor do I travel often. I love my Evo, it has a lot of admirable qualities: AWD, 400+hp, 4 doors, decent trunk, and decent fuel economy. But, I am fortunate enough to be in the market for an additional vehicle. I have been thinking this one over for quite a while now, but have been unable to really nail down a few front runner vehicles to look at.
My max budgeted purchase price before tax and fees is $27,000. I would like a used vehicle as I had a great experience with my car and would love to avoid massive new car depreciation. However, I do require something either with remaining factory warranty or a means for an aftermarket warranty. I am also 6'4" and have a long torso. The Evo is blessed with a great headroom, but most small/ midsize sedans with a moonroof seem to be plagued with low rooflines. As much as I would love a coupe, I think a midsize sedan is probably going to be the route I go.
I have driven and been seriously considering a 2009 Infiniti G37xS sedan. The car is on the edge of size for me, but I can sit in it comfortably. I like nearly all aspects of the vehicle except the transmission. I felt the automatic was somewhat abrupt in either manual or auto mode and generally seemed to limit the impact of the 328hp V6 combined with AWD. In addition, a manual sedan G37S would be very difficult to find. However, one can easily be had with 1-2years remaining on the factory warranty within my budget.
On the other end of the spectrum, I have been investigating a 2005-2006 Mercedes E55 AMG. I have not driven one, but my dad has an e60 M5 (not the same car, but same idea) and I love it. They are a helluva bargain at <$30k. But once you add a reasonably comprehensive aftermarket warranty, a car like this is probably outside my range. But still something I am considering...
As I have not driven all that many vehicles in my lifetime, I would like other Evo owner's advice on a slightly more comfortable, more luxurious vehicle to look into that might not fall on its face dynamically compared to the Evo.
So, $27k, let's hear some ideas! Thanks!
(Sorry in advance if this should be in the OT area...)

The newer body style Nissan Maximas are really nice. They have a decent amount of room, good power, are very nice and from what I have seen will fall into your price range for one just a couple of years old. I had a Lexus IS250 myself but I think that would be a little too small for you since you are so tall. Or maybe one of the new Turbo Buick Regal's they have been advertising on TV, they look to have a ton of room in them.
I would love it but there is almost no way I'd fit. I already have tried on a G37S coupe and it's definitely too small (it's the moonroof that kills its for me). I would guess the 370 would be even worse on headroom unless you know otherwise.

How about a Chrysler 300. They are definitely a comfortable ride, plenty of legroom, and have options for all the bells and whistles. Only downfall is Chrysler's drivetrain, but on the upside you can get a Hemi with the MDS system that can still get decent fuel economy.

When I worked at Cadillac I really really really liked the CTS 3.6 AWD. With the HUD and all the other options it was a joy to drive. Seating was also low, and the car didn't feel like a grandmas vehicle, compared to most Cadillacs. Still comfy and quiet though.
4door GTI. My friend has a 2011 one with the fat five wheels on it and I love it. Sporty, good looking 4door, good gas mileage compared to an evo, luxury, and plenty of aftermarket if you went that route. But as stated above FWD. but still good car. Maybe Audi S4 Quattro?
You would be surprised. It is one of the fastest depreciating cars there is. The "Car Show" on Speed ran a section about it. I remember seeing mid 2000 models going for the 20k range on auto trader during the summer.
The money needed to cover maintenance costs wouldn't be worth it though.
