Might be time to grow old and trade for STI Wagon

So I've owned my evo for 3.5 years, best car I've ever owned. Problem free in 42 months & 54k miles, aside from a new battery. But I've lived in Brooklyn for two years now, a place that's not very friendly to multiple cars. I work on movies, and my girlfiend is a photographer. My evo is the sole vehicle for the girlfriend and I, and has been as long as we've lived here. It hauls the dog, takes us on small vacations, and now that she's shooting a lot more, and I'm beginning to shoot a lot more, I find myself using it as a gear transporter almost every weekend, and there's nothing more frustrating than not being able to put much gear into a car.

I've been looking at STis for the past few months but not being able to bring myself to trade my car, because I'm not a very enthusiastic Subaru person, and an avid EVO fanatic. But after this weekend's most recent shoot, I finally realized how dumb it is to keep sticking gear in my evo every weekend when I could do so much more with an STI wagon.

I did a small go-kart track day in November and had so much fun in my baby, which is why I got it, and I know I can continue to have fun in an STi, but I can't help but feel like I'm doing something stupid by getting rid of the car I love so much. But it's Brooklyn, and you simply can't have two cars here.

Anyone else feel sad by the thought of switching to the STi?

I could never just up an switch like that. Then again I HATE wagons with a passion. Personally, if I need extra room, but not a truck, that is what small SUV's are for. If you have the money you can still get an awesome performing SUV (see: SRT-8 Jeep, Trailblazer SS).

eh my parents had an SRT jeep, I'm just not an SUV person. At least the wagon I could take on a track day at some point, an SUV is the end of my race-car'ish dreams, if you understand

If you absolutely need that extra room the new STi hatches are pretty nice. I wouldn't take one over an Evo, but I don't need to haul gear and have owned 5 cars at a time so I don't have the Brooklyn problem.

Sounds like moving on might be the wise move for you. Best of luck.

It's not like you'd be buying a Kia for gods sake. STi = fun. just do it. and have some fun.

I just saw an STi hatch. It looked so sick. I love wagons.

I'm sure you'll miss the Evo but the STi won't be a total downgrade. At least it's in the same genre.

i sold (yes she still reminds me) my wife's Subaru Outback LL Bean edition wagon so that I could get my 2nd evo. both of our current cars are paid off but i could never see myself getting rid of my evo.

if your situation changes, i would try to obtain a 2nd wagon vehicle maybe something that will just get the job done of transporting alot of equipment but not so straining on the wallet, perhaps the early 2000 Outbacks or Foresters?

Clearly the Evo doesn't fit your life style anymore, which is a shame. IMO the STI's are a more DD friendly car as i prefer there interiors (except seats)....I don't think you'll be upset with the switch.

With that being said, I’ll never sell my evo....get other vehicles sure...but i couldn't get rid or it all together. Sad part is you can't keep yours even if you wanted to.

How about a small hitch and tow the gear? You wouldn't need a large trailer. Im sure someone has done this before. Maybe some of the auto cross guys have a rigs to carry tires and jacks so you can see pictures. do you have a place to store a small trailer?
