If these two cars are priced the same then the obvious choice would be the m3. The only factors where the evo is superior is potential for modding, better traction, cheaper to run, and perhaps a bit more entertaining to drive. Oh and since this particular evo has a FP black it should also be quicker theoretically. For everything else the m3 wins. Seems like half of us are recommending the m3 and this is Evom.net LoL

It all depends on your expectations.. What do you look for in a car? What do you look for in return from the driving experience? It's different for everybody. Personally, I'd rather drive a fully modded Evo than a bone-stock M3 - anyday! It'd be a more rewarding experience based on my expectations. The only car that I could buy & give up Evo's without feeling heartbroken is a Porsche 997 Turbo. Until I can afford one (if ever), I'll stick to my Evo..
One side note I want to add that sticks out to me from several posts, is that several people recommend the M3 on a point that has nothing to do with either cars performance - image. If image is all (or mostly) what someone cares about, than the Evo is definetaly not for you. Image was not on Mitsubishi's mind when they created the Evo. Frankly, I couldn't give a rip about the image a car has. Again, someone with my expectations & what I look for in the driving experience - image is such a subjective characteristic that makes it absurd to use it as an argumentative point for one car over another. Unless of coarse, image is the name of the game for you...

Yes i think he was.
M3 is fast my friend has one. well he HAD one until he got 3 DWI's in it and the state took his car and auctioned it probably for 17k. Anyway... i drove it and it was fun. but the evo is more fun and looks better. Well then again he had the E46 model. so he had a 03'. **** was fast though,... 333hp stock.

I've owned both a IX and an e90 M3 (with a X and 335i in between them). I sold the M3 wanting to get back into the IX for the better driving experience. The M3 is fast, handles very well and is smooth but is numb and at least 300 lbs heavier.
If you aren't going to drive it on the track the M3 is by far the better daily, but if you want a "sports car" the IX is it out of those two.

Since you own the Evo already, go test drive a M3. Then compare them to see which one you like better. I bought Evo so I can easily mod it, drive it daily and my 2 years old loves boost.
Also BMW's are expensive to maintain. I would buy extended warranty or certified from BMW dealer.
