A 500 HP Evo also won't be particularly "fun" to drive around town (think turbo lag) and you risk getting to the point of compromised reliability. The guy in the R35 can just turn around, spend $2000 and be ahead of you again.

For a daily, I think a lightly modded or stock GTR is the obvious choice. For an all-out track car that only gets driven to and from the track, an Evo makes more sense since the money saved can go into go fast bits and "save your *** when **** goes wrong" bits.
Dynamat is heavy as ****.. and is rather old technology

Look into the good stuff, its lightweight in relation to how well it performs.. It is a dd then a little added weight is nothing

It will never be as quiet as stock or as quiet as a electric vehicle but it can be easily corrected I agree again that when we extract more power out of the car that we do create more noise and harshness but at 500 its barely heavily modified

On to turbos, its all how you look at a 4k spooling turbo, drop a gear and go, plus if you choose a higher CR then low end does not suffer, choice in cams that does not sacrafice low end also helps

I guess we all have different views but a GTR will always be a nicer DD than any evo as it is in a different price range and is ALOT more money

And a evo will always be a cheaper track car to maintain than a R35 GTR

If the GT-R is your dream car and you can afford to buy/maintain it, then go for the dream car. That's a no brainer.

My Evo is my dream car, it is also a dd (still looking for a project car) but I went for the MR with touring/premium package so that it would be tolerable/comfortable enough to dd.

Three years ago I bought the Ralliart because I thought it was a good compromise cost/performance wise. I am much happier with the Evo, it puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel.

Bottom line, if you can afford the dream car, buy the dream car.

Plus the skyline is 3800 lbs at 480 hp thats 1 hp per 7.9 lbs
if you take a evo at 3000 lbs at 500 hp its 1 hp per 6 lbs... evo is definently better choice if you look at a stock R35 vs a modded evo... just saying
we're talking evo X here, 3500lb, it'd take alot of work to get it to 3000lb, I don't think it would still be streetable of you had to throw out 500lb of weight

If you can afford it, a GTR would be the wiser choice. AT least you'll get some return on a GTR should you ever need to sell it. You'd never be able to make any money back on an Evo with $40,000 in mods. I know that's irrelevant, but it's something to think about.

Thanks for the replies all. I'll be testing a '12 gtr this weekend and see how I feel. Even though I know already before I go. Been really looking at budgets for track time and the costs of up keep as well as reliability and stuff. Either way I got something good around the corner headed my way.
On a side note, And after seeing the new gt-500 Shelby, wow! ALMOST makes me want that mustang, thing is seriouse.
Will keep you posted
