Buy CPO BMW, good warrantee service and work.

Buy CPO Evo...get denied for almost all claims.

Just saying...

Two things I think about when buying car, regardless of what it is, are; insurance cost & and ongoing maintenance. Evo insurance has been cheap for me, and I do all of the maintenance. Car has never been to a shop for anything. On my X5, which I bought used, the dealer has done most of the services. I haven't paid a dime for anything. Something to think about other than which car is better. They're both great cars.

While it was off!? Holy crap man. Lol, don't think I've ever read about anything like that over on the forums. That's crazy.

if your budget is limited to around 20k, skip the BMW. I guarantee you won't find an LSB or AW in good shape with less than 60k miles for 20k
Found a couple of decent E46 M3s...

And:

A bit pricier than most E46s for sure.

Mine's been great for the past 20,000 miles since I've owned it.
Only things needing replacements were the power steering pump, as well as the voltage regulator on the alternator the other day (instead, did a full alternator exchange..just to be safe).
And that's what really brings me towards the Evo. Speeeeeed!

I love driving my buddy's 650hp STi. I don't even notice the bouncy ride, mostly because I'm so focused on not stalling his stage 4 clutch, F that thing
Makes me feel awful whenever I get into my car afterwards.

Haha that ******* electric fan, I had to replace mine because when I'd turn the car off it would start up going full speed on it's own and drain the battery. After a while it started smoking.

I had no idea it could get this bad, I figured it would just die and stop cooling, I guess I really dodged that just in time.

That's the thing with BMWs, they can't make basic things while the internals are solid. Window regulators? Fans? Plastic clips? Plastic ducts? Plastic expansion tanks with PRESSURIZED COOLANT? What do you mean there's a problem? What problem?

I'd hop all over that LSB if that's what you want. Those are a very hard find for one with low miles and 6-speed

I've been ranting about this for ages now.
The parts that run fine on a Honda...they can't seem to perfect. BMWs have been having cooling system problems for generations. Idk how the E90s deal with them but I doubt it'll be much better when they become the "previous" generation.

Happened to someone up here, except I think it was a 300zx that was in the garage.
And I don't think the house burned down because of the car. But man! How dangerous...and to think I like to keep mine in the garage.

Very true. I'm considering it.....not that far away.
It's just that driving it for half a year or so just wouldn't be that great.

I've read that some owners slap a set of snow tires on them and the limited slip diff. really helps out.

Plain and simple, e90 335 id stay away from, so many issues that its hard to list them all for you.

Also... you CANNOT compare E46 to a E46 M3, its like comparing a Evo to a lancer... completely differnt cars. The vanos bolts do get issues on the S54.. Easy fix with upgraded bolts Honestly next to nothing goes wrong with the e46 m3/ S54. Its by far one of the most solid bimmers ever!
... if you do get a e46 m3... DO NOT GET A SMG!!!!!! You will hate your life with the problems to come...

Although that being said, looking at your wants, I do believe you will be much happier with a evo over a m3. I wish you luck and good fortune on your hunt

btw.. I work a t bmw as a service technician

I was actually thinking e92, as I know they have less problems.

But you make good points!
I had absolutely no intentions of getting an SMG e46 M3...kills half the fun!

E92 is just a 2 door E90.. Same car... They are in the E90x varient and are virtually the same car..same problems... other than no rear door lock or window regulator issues lol but they do have seat belt extender issues lmfao (you buy any E90x varient BMW if you want to eventually Break My Wallet)

The rear subfame has collasped right through the floor ot has begun to crack, It is covered under warranty if not touched or tried to fix at an outside shop or by ones self, the fix is inspecting and then sending the vehicle to a BMW approved body shop... pretty fail, but I have only seen 3 vehicles with cracked/ collasped rear floor sub frame

As long as you've got a stock suspension + wheel setup, the dealership is willing to fix it for you.
However, the warranty is out now, I'm not sure how they treat it as of late.

Both of those are E90s. 1st is a regular E90. 2nd is a M3 E90.
