Dont get me wrong, when I had my lancer I loved it but it has a Daewoo grill, rims from any vehicle that has came with 5 stars (And even if you say "But they are OZ's", in 1999 there was a OZ edition Eclipse) and the interior felt very Civic like.

The rims are just a silly point to bring up. Everyone is copying everyone else with rims these days, so no one is really doing any worse than any other. There is only so far you can go with a round object while still being functional.
The headlights to ME look more like new Celica headlights than 350Z. Again, that isn't really a single mark design detail. Many cars are coming with that new swept back headlight look. From the Celica to the Z to the new Lexus ES330 and the G35 coupe and sedan. Its just the new style. By stacking the high and low beams together, you get a more compact shape that leads to more interesting design shapes. And, they can then put the high beams up above the low beams, to better aid in lighting ahead of you. Again, its just what everyone is doing, so they are all kind of borrowing from everyone else.
Really, in this day and age, there isn't really too much you can do that isn't in some way similar to some other car out there. There is just so much that goes into designing a car, you just can't do something without someone thinking it looks like someone else's design. Hell, when the C5 Vette came out, I thought the front portion of the car looked a lot like the FD RX7's. With the vents in the fenders and the shape. I doubt Chevy said "That looks nice, lets copy that" its just the way it worked out. People need to just get over it. Designs will come and go, and eventually, someone will think something looks like some other design thats out there. Its just the way the automotive world works. Look no further than the mini van. Chrysler comes out with this smaller van style, and now even though the so called "mini van is bigger than it was, everyone has one. You can't live as a company without one. It just happens.

I think the gripe is with the fact that they tout the color of the caliper and not the size. Most guys that see my evo say "man, those are some big brakes"... not "those are some pretty red things inside your wheels". The comercial is about the color not the caliber of the caliper. (did that sound funny or what?) Its like the one pontiac comercial that shows the open-diff spinning. Why show that? It looks cool to the lamen but it dosen't show the performance of the car. It just looks cool.
I like the supercharger. I give them that. But that car is a BOAT. Although, the GTP is a cool BOAT. Plus... it has red shoes!

Now its just the opposite, people will denounce any car from an American car company and assume any car from Japan is pure gold.
Quite frankly the attitude pisses me off. People will sit here and complain that U.S. automakers just dont get it, but then when they do slam a decent car together (SVT Focus, SRT-4, Saturn Ion Redline, etc) everyone just denounces it as "an American piece of crap." Honestly, Ive read on posts on this board calling Corvettes pieces of crap. This amuses me because
1. Up until the Evo and the STI's intorduction to the U.S. market, the Corvette was the best high performance bang for the buck
2. The people calling the Corvette a piece of crap drive Lancer OZs. Dont give me wrong I drive one and love it, but it is no where close to the Vette in any department. Its like someone living in a glas house throwing a rock at a bomb shelter....
Ill end this rant with this. People proclaim Japanese cars to the "****," yet fail to see the facts. Yes, the new KA motors are now accepted as being worthy successors to the B series, but no one can deny that Honda took a step back with the Civic chassis. The previous generation sported double wishbone suspension, while the new one is sprung on McPherson struts. Now no one complains that Honda took a step back, but when Pontiac tries to make advances, such as little items like red calipers or new cars like the Solstice, people just talk smack and call it crap. How in the hell does that make any sense?
Honestly, if you cant see the promise of a small rear drive cheap coupe like the Solstice, you really need to get a better understanding of cars.
(Im sure alot of you reading this are saying "yea Honda is crap, but thats why I like Mitsu, they are awsome." Need I mention what happened to the Eclipse after the 2nd Gens??? Nuff said)

Looking at the front of my EVO it just screams Pontiac. Everybody copies.
Some things are worth copying and some aren't.
