Fto?

Anybody know anything about the Mitsu FTO? I've never even heard of it until I ran across some pictures. The stats the owner posted are incredible! 0-60 in 5.0 sec!? Is this for real?

Here is the specs that I have for the FTO, don't know how accurate they are.
2.0L V6 5spd.
Top Speed-140mph
0-60 7.5sec
200bhp@7,500rpm
148 lb-ft of torque@4,800rpm
Weight-2,534 lbs.
Displacement-1,998cc

I think that there is also a 4-cylinder model too.

Also Jackie Chan jumps an FTO onto a boat in First Strike.

Overall, not a bad car. I want one.

I guess the body design and NO-turbo contributed to that fact. And with the EVOs in the market, most guys will try to get the EVO before thinking about the FTO. Personally, I never really give consideration to this car

But according to the guy who owns it, it is a turbo and it's a 2.8 not a 2.0 and it gets 0-60 in 5.0? Is there a model that can do this or do you think he upgraded it himself?

Engine: 2.8 L turbo
Horsepower: 340 bhp
Torque: 318 lb-ft
0-60 mph: 5.0 sec
Top Speed: 160 mph
Fuel Efficiency: 28/30 mph
Transmission: automatic
Brakes: disc / disc
Tires: Yokohama Z rated
Curb Weight: 3208 lb
Length: 160.1 in
Width: 75 in
Height: 53 in
Wheelbase: 100.6 in
Original Factory Price: $32,000

Ok going from memory here, don't blame me if my numbers are out.
There are 3 engines available standard in the FTO
1.6L MIVEC
2L Turbo
V6 MIVEC (can't remember capacity)

I guess that's kind of like the Mazda Miatas (MX-5, Eunos Roadster I think they're called in other countries) over here. Nice car but saddled with an unfair stigma.

Engines

The FTO never came with the 4G63 or any other turbo engine for that matter. Other then the base 4, and a base 6, the top motor was a 2L DOHC MIVEC V6.

I own TWO of those... the Version R and the Race Car... Oh, I meant on GT3.

Seriously, though, I think I saw something in SCC at the Japanese Auto Salon that there are a few that are twin turbo or something. Pretty sure that isn't a production model, but...

Secondly, is that similar to a detuned version of the Eclipse in one of it's incarnations? I ask because of the appearance similarities (sort of, looks like a supra mounted a 2G Eclipse and this is their offspring), and the size is similar.

The FTO has always seemed exceedingly small to me. A 2.0L 6 cyl, what a funny concept but it seems to get the job done. I can't imagine a twin turbos in that thing since I can't even imagine where they'd find the space. Hell, the intercooler piping and mounting alone would strike me as a biznitch. Hooboy though...I wouldn't mind taking it for a spin. I do like that engine bay except for it's "cramped" look.

That TT thing struck me as funny since I hadn't heard of Mitsu doing a TT before... but, there it was in that magazine. I think. I would go double check, but, I'm running a 101.5 fever and all my issues are in the car.

FTO chassis

FTO stands for Fresh Touring Organization. I'm not sure if it was designed to compete in some form of Japanese SCCA or, if that's just a name for somone who wants something less then a GT car. The engine is on the opposite side of the Eclipse so I doubt it shares much the DSM chassis, unless, like all Mitsus the motor changed sides after a certain year. As far as twin turbo models go, it would have to be some sort of kit, because the top model, the FTO GP spec R, or whatever was NA and was designed to compete with the ITR.
