for those who owned any subbies before...
Subies are very reliable and if you leave them stock you can rag on them for a long long time. Wheel bearings are a gripe at times but within spec they are wonderful cars that can take all most dish out
i had a 2000 impreza 2.5 rs with a minnam intake, apexi n1 exhaust and some yokohama a520s, i put 49k miles on it within 18 months. traded it for a 02 wrx, installed a Vishnu up-pipe and some kumho ecsta 712's, then put 13k miles on it in 6 months. no problems, no oil leaks, not even a flat tire, and i worked the 2.5 rs pretty hard with a few pseudo rally runs. the wrx.... well i worked that into a ditch.
i owned a 2001 impreza 2.5RS, very good cars. my friend owns a 98 outback...has driven it from massachusetts to cali more times than he can count. and still no problems..i think it had 200K+ miles on it before he sold it.

my dad had an oooold turbo subie..wow was that an interesting car..all i remember is that it had a rusty body but ran like no other. my dad always tells me about how bad the brakes were tho..once u press the brake pedal, it kinda speeds up then after u press it more it starts to slow down..it was wierd..
but that was the reliability of an old subie, new subies seem to be pretty good with reliability

My friend has a wrx wagon w/ some bolt-ons. He broke the tranny twice (shattered gear I believe). This was more a cause of abuse than anything else. Side-stepping the clutch at 6000 RPM is a dumb thing to do in an AWD, EVO or WRX.
my dad had a subby like 5-6 years ago when i was young , i didn't even know what it was - but he told me he had 240,000 miles on it and it was running fine still. thats one of the reasons why he wanted my brother to get a wrx as his first car
Subarus suffer from the same issues all Jap cars suffer from.
Weak trannys/differentials (if equiped).
Thin paint.
Thin/delicate body panels.
Other than that, the Subys are equal to all other Jap car brands.

I traded in my 02 Wrx for my evo and had 0 problems with it. It had a turboxs stage 4 with a 50 wet shot, and the only repair made at 30k was a clutch. ( I rarely lauched it though prob would have gave lots sooner otherwise)) If looking for a WRX don't forget about the EVO RS when you make your decision.
