Project car

I am thinking of starting a project car, just to toy around with. I want something I can Autocross, track , drift, do whatever. I am not sure what kind of car I want . If you guys had between 5 and 15 thousand for a project car , what you do build. The cost has to contain the cost of the car. Thanks for the help.

Get a beetle. You can put so much money into them and make it go a LONG way. That's what my current project car is anyway.

If you don't like that, it really depends on what you want the money to go into. Some cars are expensive to mod/etc... :S

well my homeboy just bought a 1991 CRX dx. its totally beat up so thats our project car, he got it for 650.00 pretty cheap and it runs just fine, except for the huge smoke clouds it shoots out. so far we did a custom sri, changed the plugs and oil. runs great now. were planning on swapping out the motor to a B16 or Si. but gotta save up. its gonna run about 2000 with swapping.

looks like your looking at RWD cars. the bmw 3 series in general is good. doesn't have to be an m3 to drive like an m3 if it doesn't have to do double duty as a semi daily driver, then i would go for the mr2. no backseat so less stuff you'd have to remove for weight reduction. plus the general reliability of the 3S-GTE. hachirokus and silvias are good, but require engine swaps to be better.

^I love Miatas but I have a hard time seeing speed being that cheap for one. I think a great all around car would be a 240sx with an SR20det and a some suspension upgrades. The turbo engine would take very well to modifications. The car is already known as a drifter and I've seen some badass Datsuns at the autoX.

I am considering a miata. They can be mad into autocross monsters. They can be had pretty cheap and there are parts a plenty for them. What companies offer turbo kits. I think racing beat and greddy, anybody else?

Yeah. Miatas are great. Well, accoording to my bf that is. He loved his. It was turbocharged and he claims to have had a blast driving it. He wants to get another one (sold his last one) But I'm not sure if he'll be doing that right now...

10-15 grand? Get a decent 240SX and do a SR20DET swap. You should have money left for suspension and other odds and ends if you get an S13.
