Well this started as a speculation thread on a rumor. But it is now official. Nissan is now the largest shareholder of Mitsubishi Motors holding 34%, spending $2.2 billion dollars in the purchase. Personally I feel like this could be a good thing. Nissan seems to be doing quite well for themselves lately. Perhaps they would see what once made Mitsubishi great and try to pump some life back into it. Im not entirely a fan of Nissan's styling for the last few years, but surely they would make a point to keep the two styles separated. Im curious if they would be interested in bringing back any of Mitsu's good cars such as the Evo, Eclipse, 3000GT, and so on.

 

seems good since nissan has great engineering and sales and the only thing mitsu had going for them was the evo.
a good portion of murica wouldnt be caught dead buying a used non evo mits

 

Thats pretty interesting. I can only imagine a 4b11 or 4g63 with a nissan engineered syntronic trans.. But It ill probably never happen.

 

With their 16.5% holding, Toyota (7203) has been running Subaru (7270) incredibly well, magnifying Subaru's strength as a niche car, nerd car, and hoon car automaker, while avoiding much cannibalism between the two brands.

I'm not quite sure if Nissan (7201) were to buy Mitsubishi (7211), they could do a job nearly as fantastic as Toyota.

 

I think this could be great. Mitsubishi has been seriously lacking on new technology. On top of that their marketing sucks. I think Nissan could really help them out.

Interesting. But the cars Mitsu were cheating on were the kei cars being rebadged as Nissans.
So would Nissan take over all of Mitsu's models, or only the microcars?

For me, it'd be a good thing, as there aren't any Mitsu dealers within an hour of where I'm moving, but Nissan makes cars in Tennessee.

So ... a US made EVO?
(Would give them a nice price point differential from the GT-R.)
(Compare the 3000GT to the US-built diamond-star Eclipse.)

But Mitsu has been putting their chips on the Outlander, and Nissan already has the Rogue.
So I suspect only the kei cars would be retained.

A Nissan sale might remove Mitsu from the US market completely.

I'm excited, Nissan still makes cool cars. Maybe they will do something with the EVO platform.

 

It also opens up the Renault lineup to be rebranded for the US market. I would like to see the Clio sport sold here

I read the article a few days ago, I think this is great. Hopefully this means a Evo for us in 4-5 years. And finally shut all that crap that the new STi has the best steering feel and that RS BS everybody is raving about.


In addition, I wonder if the value of Evo's will plummet? Is this the best time to sell my evo?
