High Performance Mitsu Mini MPV
Probably gonna get flamed for posting this...
Here's another application of the famed 4G63T:

Yep, it's a mini minivan. It's the 2nd generation of the Expo LRV that never made it here(the 1st gen was sold here in the early 90s for about 4 years).
230hp and 250ft/lbs at just 2500rpm.
Hey Lan Evo, here's a product I think Subaru did not match(not a macho enough segment maybe...)
Flame away...

Since the Airtrek is capable of receiving the 4G63 engine, then that means...
maybe Mitsu is waiting for Scooby to bring the Forrester Turbo to the US first, just like what they did with the EVO (waited for the WRX to be here first)
No space for a V6
The main reason
cites for not putting a V6 in the Outlander is space. They claim a V6 wont fit...
I think it also has to do with cost. Higher production volume of the 2.4l 4G64 engine will lower per unit cost and yield higher profit margins.
has promised a power increase for next year, possibly in the form of a turbo or a high-output (variable valve timing... MIVEC!!!) 2.4l 4G64

That poor Outlander. Woefully underpowered but pretty good looking. It would be nice for Mitsu to develop a high output NA small displacement 4 banger (2.0 and under) but still be able to produce the big torque we appreciate. When the 4G64 is your most potent 4 cylinder NA offering (at least in the States), you're not catering to a big performance market. No offence to any 3G Eclipse and Galant owners.
