Acura SH-AWD: A Comprehensive Analysis

I posted earlier bits in the Focus RS thread. Helpful for understanding limitations and benefit inherent in each system.

It'll help answer power and turning "limitations" of the AWD systems.

Reading through this article I kept wondering why???? - kept thinking the Focus RS would have been a better car had it been equipped with a center differential. I just don't believe that overdriven rear axles and constantly slipping clutches are anything but a maintenance nightmare - a solution seeking a problem.

I think systems like the Focus will be the norm in the future. It's fine, for the most part, except for the more hardcore bunch out there.

I'm not a truck guy but I watch Fast Lane Truck or Fast Lane Car where they take AWD vehicles and 4X4's into the Mountains to test their capabilities. Compared to a truck the only SUV I saw do well was a Mitsubishi and maybe a Subaru. A good AWD system should be as good as a 4x4 truck until ground clearance becomes an issue and for the most part they are not.
