2006 BMW M5 ... yowza!
Got my Autoweek today and... good lord.
5.0L V10 pushing 500HP, 369 lb-ft. Production redline may be a dizzying 8500rpm! RWD of course, hooked up to a 7-speed SMG transmission. Curb weight is estimated at 3900lbs. Wheels are 19x8.5 up front, 19x9.5 out back. It will go on sale in 2005.
0-60? Estimated to be 4.7 seconds, with a 0-120mph split in only 12.7 seconds (!!!). Top speed is estimated to be 185 mph. $80K is likely to be the starting range for this beast.
My boss had the original M5. It liked to eat its diffs, and eventually he ditched it when he ran into head gasket issues. His E34 530i is having head gasket issues now. He might end up slipping into a 2001 540i 6spd Sport (or a Toyota Prius... there's a change), but if he can look past the styling and iDrive I wouldn't mind seeing this insane thing in the lot every day.

I've always liked these drag-strip ready sedans. What do you folks think? I mean... a V10 revving that high is usually reserved for the Italian elite.

I have a 2-page foldout in front of me. No scanner though.
Wheels are 10-spokes. The front-fender gills on the M3 may apparently be the new M trademark. Quad-exhaust way down low, and yes, the bustled trunk and headlamp eyelashes remain.
Definitely huge powerdome on the hood, and a large air dam. The side profile isn't bad, but I still hate that trunk line.
Autoweek.com will probably have it posted in an article within a few days as usual. Always has to be some incentive for subscribing to the paper rag.

Yeah. Autoweek says $80K, I think otherwise. The 5 is up in price due to the weak dollar. Heck a 530i starts at $45000, which is ridiculous. It's mid 50's equipped.
The 645Ci starts in the 80s for crying out loud. I saw one yesterday, though the dude blew me off and floored it after I thumbsed it up.
The M6 is slated to be > $100K, and 50HP over the M5. I'm guessing the M5 will be closer to $100K, before dealer markup. Anyone remember markup on the Z8? Yes, it was as high as 100% in some places.

I hate the bustled trunk... Bangle and company really messed up. But the car still is beastly.

I implied that to mean there will be a choice.
A new seven-speed version of BMW's sequential manual gearbox, based on the six-speed the M3 uses, will be offered as an alternative to a more traditional seven-speed manual.
