Exclamation Best Mid-Size Sedan?

  • Nissan Altima
  • Mitsubish Galant
  • Honda Accord
  • Dodge Stratus
  • Toyota Camry
  • Chevy Impala
  • Volkswagon Passat
  • Kia Optima
  • Hyundai Elantra
  • Ford Taurus
  • Mazda 6

My Vote: Nissan Altima, 2nd: Mitsubishi Galant, 3rd (tie): Honda Accord/Mazda 6

far as body goes, mazda6 kills the comp, but overall the altima is tooo sweet. Galant has the worse body and the accord is pretty nice.

personally for me it would be between the Mazda 6 and the Altima. None of the others really float my boat except the Passat but with all the recent VW quality problems I would't spend my money there quite yet.

It depends on what you want. The Altima looks sweet but has interior quality issues (though the 2005 is supposed to fix that). Also the chassis is ill suited for the V6, lots of torque steer. The 180HP 4 cyl is plenty but you lose the sweet dual exhaust. The accord is actually faster, built to a much higher standard, and will hold a lot of value, but it is generic and kind of dorky looking. If you want something that handles and looks good, the Mazda 6 for sure. I'd get the five door fastback which looks like a sleeker sedan but is more useful. I know it is based on the Ford Focus, but believe it or not, the Focus platform is one of the best front wheel drive platforms on the planet. Passat is long in the tooth and is getting replaced soon. A lot of the VW problems stem from cars built in Brazil and Mexico. All Passats are still built in Germany so they are generally more reliable.

I personally work in Valet, and an admitted biased supporter of Mitsubishi, but when I think of rating these kind of cars, cost for what you get is always MAJOR factor. I have driven all of these cars MANY times and there is support for all of them, but I would say the Galant gets a BIG vote from me. Drove the new one in the V6 and it is AWESOME! I know the Accord and Altima and Mazda6 are all AWESOME in their own right, but bang for the buck, teh Galant is the firts one I would actually purchase...probably.

My Galant sucked. It was a 2000 V6 ES. The TCS didn't work. One time I had to slam on the brakes on the highway and I started getting sideways. Cars with ABS aren't supposed to get sideways under hard braking are they? My Galant had wheel hop like no other.
