everyone on this board says "buy an evo..." i am also sick of that.

i want an eclipse, but i prefer the 1st gen...much more 'sleeper' style with those, even with a mild bodykit on it.

i thought about getting an eclipse for a looong tiem but i think im gonna stay with my truck. im not sure though.

id go for the eclipse u can have them in the 12's in no time! and u can still get Buschur Parts haha.

Stick with the Lancer. I see way too many eclipses around but few modded Lancers. The Lancer has great potential, not to mention it is four-door and better gas milage. Just my opinion.

 

If you are going to switch to the eclipse only switch for the gen 2 GSX that is all I would switch for. That car is still one of my favorite cars of all time ( bought lancer cause insurance was too high and IS 300 was to much money). I like the lancer and I would not trade for a GST I would only switch for GSX.

 

Keep the lancer man everyone has an eclipse no matter what year the lancer might be slower stock but it has potential make ur lancer yours unlike the eclipse where everything under the sun is out there for it,but then again u might not like the challenge to make ur lancer different than everyone else's.

 

If the Eclipse was maintained well go for it. The 2G is immensely superior if you're going to modify than the 3G is and will ever be. Since it's a '99 it's not incredibly old but you might just want a basic engine service done (belts, gaskets, seals) before you start into it.

 

Having been a DSM owner for the 4 years before my EVO I can totally say GO WITH THE ECLIPSE. A Lancer cant hold a match to a stock GST. An then if you compare both cars mod'ed it's not even close. Sorry if I ruffle Lancer guys feathers, but the two cars are not even on the same level if you want performance. NOT EVEN close.....

 

buy an eclipse then and whatever you do, do not buy an evo.

 

^agreed. As much as I like the Lancer...I'd say the potential on the 2g eclipse is far greater than that of the Lancer. They really can't be compared on the same performance level.

the lancer gets better than 45mpg at 80mph, and average 32mpg? wow!
my eclipse is stock underhood except for a K&N replacement filter... not even the cold air kit (and ihave the 5spd.)

 

I would get the eclipse all the way.

 

i would prefer awd 97-99 eclipse gsx if you like body style and a little bit of kick...
and remember get 5spd. its more fun...
