NEED HELP: 240sx owners!
yea as u can see on my sig, i was going to buy a toyota ae86 but then my friend sold it to another guy coz he thought that i wasnt interested anymore so he is going to sell me his 240sx and told me just put an sr20det motor on it. im not really familiar about 240's but have heard about ppl doing this more often. my question is that what is a front clip. and if i buy the sr20det s14 front clip, does it come with a motor? im guessing yeah coz of the price, but im not sure? btw, can i just get the sr20det s13 red top front clip for a 97 240sx because it is a lot cheaper than the s14?
yeah the front clip is everything you need... the engine, tranny, axles, and possibly the bumper and fenders... it is pretty much everything u need to just drop it right in and get it working... also you can deff find a red top to drop in it, 2 of my friends have that conversion one with the black top and one with the red top and they r both really fast... o yea one other thing, if u wanna go a lil different from the norm i know some people are now doing RB25det motors in 240s now. if you dont know what motor that is, its out of a skyline gtst and you can get the full front clip for that too and that motor is less common and lays down more power stock and has more potential for further mods...
sr20det bolts into any 240 no matter the year.. i have a s13 and will try to post pix up tomarrow.. yeah the 240 is the new civic i bought mine 6 years ago.. everyone thought it was a waste.. i use to be the only one with a hooked up 240 now there everywhere.. but anyways.. sr20det, get a black top if you can its faster..suspension and u got a beast..

about sites there is another forum like this at www.club240.com, for the actual engine and other parts, www.heavythrottle.com seems to be an alright site. the customer service and the instructions that are given on that site could be really helpful if u try to do a sr20 swap urself. i was thinkin of tryin to swap a sr20 for a summer project (srry i wasnt sure what a sil80 is, lol).
i dont mean to hyjack this, but does anyone know if a swap like this would be legal in MA. i emailed a guy at heavy throttle and he said that it would pass the smog test, but would fail a visual test. is there even a visual test for emmissions in MA? im not usually the one that takes the cars to get tested, so any help would be appreciated.

I actually sold my SR powered 240 to buy the Evo. I was one of the first in Virginia to have one then they turned into the JDM B16 of Nissan. I loved it to death but the chassis was just too damn old ('91) I was always fixing something chassis related....power steering, hatch leaks, bad grounds, etc. It revved to the moon and had a power band to die for (starts @ 3000 and goes until 7300). I boosted 14psi on the stock t25 with basic bolt-ons and made 240hp 270lb/ft and in a 2600lb car it was quite the barn-stormer.
Anyway a front clip will run you about 2600-3000 depending on vender and miles. srswap.com is where I got my redtop from. Great guys and will stand behind their products. For an s14 I would recommend the s14 blacktop (different from the s13 black top) it has VTC and a t28. If you plan to go big turbo save some cash and get a s13 blacktop and drop it in.
I have ridden in many SR powered 240s and the s14 just has a smoother power delivery and is very torquey. A buddy of mine had a s14 black top that put down 280hp 285lb/ft with the s15 t28 and bolt-ons. That thing was stinky fast!!!!
Anyway good luck and I did SR swaps for local guys for 1g. The swap is not hard and if you have a daily I would suggest doing the swap yourself. You will need the experince because you will be the only one that works on it ::can't take it to Nissan anymore::

I have to say that if you get an S14 SR, you will have more power out of the box, but once you start upgrading the engine, the VVT on the S14 won't make much difference. I think it's best to start with an S13 (blacktop S13 if you can get one for lower mileage) and upgrade that instead.
Certain things to be aware of with S13 SRs though. One is they can overheat depending on where you live. I have a stock cooling system and my intercooler is installed high instead of low, but I have yet to have any cooling issues. People in warmer climates seem to have more issues with cooling.
The second is lifter tick. SRs seem to be very succeptible to lifter tick. The hydrolic lash adjusters just get clogged a bit easier than usual I guess.
Also, an SR will have a tough time passing smog in california. The japanese fuel map isn't CARB friendly. I have heard of people passing cali smog tests. They bolted the stock exhaust back on, and covered up the air filter with some cloths and managed to pass.
As far as the 240 being the new Civic, I agree and disagree with that statement. The car has become a cheap popular car, and unfortunately a lot of 240s get the rice treatment. And these jokers will waste a good SR on a rice car as well. The community is still full of a bunch of good tuners, and I believe that the ratio of ricer to real tuners is still in favor of the tuners. I unfortunately bought my car within the past year, so people have a tendency to label me as a bandwagoner. But when I was scoping the car out, I didn't know what a 240 or an SR was. I got into the community a month or so after I bought the car.
Luckily, I was one of the first convertibles with an SR in it. the first one I know of before me was a car built by Heavy Throttle and now it resides in Maryland.
Another web forum to consider is www.nissaninfiniticlub.com I use the same username there, and the community is helpful. The only thing they rag on about is the lack of searches performed. So don't mind the one or two *** holes who will whine that you didn't search if you post something.

in Japan, a 180sx is the hatch version of the silvia. Coupes had fixed headlights, while 180s havd popups (like our 240s in both coupe and hatch trim). It became popular to get ahold of silvia front body panels in japan and put them on 180s, making it a Sil-80 (silvia front, 180 rear). Likewise on our side of the ocean, the 240 coupe has been jokingly called the One-via because it has a 180 nose, and a silvia rear end.
