Evo, or 330ci, I dont know
slightlyshady1...
socioeconomics has nothing to do with this at all... i think everyone is focusing on the reason someone purchases something. not the cost.
if you compared an sti, evo8, elise, gt3... hell, even an m3 etc. differenct costs and all, but your comparing performance machines designed for handling.
each has their finer points, but when you think of tracking a car, they all make the list.
not a 330ci/i or whatever yuppie mobile you want to throw in the list.
my point is, too often people gravitate to cars not for what they can do, but the image they have associated with them.
and, most people with real "money" never brag...

Interesting thoughts guys, but I have looked around and there is no way I want a 330ci. In its place is a b5 00-02 Audi S4. Right now, it doesn't matter Evo or S4 which I get, I am just waiting to see where can I get a good deal for the perfect car for me and jump on it, S4 or Evo.
I would say for your needs, S4 is the best way to go. Even though my EVO is my daily driver, I wouldn't say it's a good one. The interior is cheap and rattles, the seats now squeek and creak along with the rest of the car, and the paint is falling off. The sole purpose and beauty of the car is performance, and it performs on the twisties and track as good or better than almost any human priced car. Other than that, it's a piece of junk with altezzas and a ricer wing (to the uninformed). If you want to be a pimp, get an S4...they aren't slow, and way more bling.
If you let other people's opinions determine what car you're going to get, you'll find that you are going to be disappointed in the end.
You will think: If only I had bought what I really wanted...
The person who is going to be driving it around is you.
When (and if) you mature beyond this stage (some people never do), you'll find your purchases much more satisfying!

True that, the decision should be based on your opinion and not someone elses... but it's always good to base it on data when you can so you can make a sound decision.
But in the end.... Drive what you like, Do who you like.

I used to own a B5 Audi S4, the ride was smooth, but I feel that a decent amount of sacrifice was made to performance in order to achieve that level of luxury. I've heard that the new B6 chassis S4's have incredible track performance for the ride and interior, but you're also talking about a $47k car, which is still outperformed by the Evo. Given that I'm sure some of that price was boosted by the label, the Evo is considerabely less. I forgot how much the B5 S4 went for, I got it for just under $23k including tax. (Maybe I got what I paid for)
BTW, as far as reliability goes, I bought it used with under 30k miles on it from a dealer and had to get almost ALL of the piping raplaced 3 times under a very strict warranty that required that I call up and argue with several managers before I had any work done. I eventually decided that it was better to just buy a samco hose kit and forge DV and not deal with the idiots in the service dept. Then again, the B6 S4 doesn't have biturbos, so I think the reliability issue is a little better on the S4's now. I haven't been on the audi forums since my car was stolen.

Your friends will change as time passes. Some will move away, others will marry and have different priorities.
A true friend will always want you to buy what YOU want.
Women who are attracted to you because of your car are, in general, not worth investing your time in.
In the end, you will be left with the car that somebody else chose for you.

Exactly...people buy cars as status symbols. My point is, if you can afford a status symbol that screams $$, enjoy it. You don't have to go out and buy a Ford Taurus because it has alot of leg room. This has gotten
Good luck finding an S4 in your price range w/o a zillion miles. I'd also steer clear of used car places on this one...find a dealer. In my search for the perfect S4 I came across so many abused cars, it was sad.
This is an EVO site. Buy an EVO. Buy it from me.
But if you want European, consider a SAAB, buy it from me.
If you want something even better, I'll sell you a CTS-V!
Which one of those three work for you?
