Also ... on the Prodride Impreza ... What's that thing where a roof scoop would go? Is it just a cover for when you don't have the roof scoop attached, or what?

it's a vent...it pops up in the front. look at some rally car pics, i'm sure you'll see an example

 

Most of the rally cars I've seen have a larger scoop ... not a pop-up vent ...

Again clearing up a few misconceptions:

1. Those are not Audi wheels

2. Rear window wipers are not a legal requirement in Europe, but in Japan. All those cars are made for the Japanese market. They're even photographed there.

3. Rallicars have pop-up air-vents, and that Prodrive-look Scooby has one.

nice picture of the sti, looks like the original rally winner, no match for the lancer evolution though. pop-up vents? i guess a/c doesn't come standard.

 

Yup, that's why they need the pop up vents. Hehehe, cheap, environmentally friendly AC. Do they have a mesh for those suckers? Wouldn't like any bugs or rocks and stuff flying around in the back.

 

I believe the WRX Type R, WRX STi Type R and WRX STi Type RA all came with roof vents from the factory... though I've seen some with a roof scoop instead of a pop up lid? Could be the V-Limited's that came with the scoop? None of those models came with A/C as a standard option.
