Why does Toyota's car line suck?

In looking at the last few years of Toyota production cars, I haven't seen a single one I like. Take a look at the 2006,7 model line, (http://www.motortrend.com/new_cars/01/toyota/index.html) there's not one car there that would appeal to anyone 18-25. Sure the 4Runner and Tundra are nice if your looking for a truck/SUV. I guess I just expect too much of Toyota anymore...

Yeah pretty much all Toyota's suck recently {thumbdwn} I haven't heard of too many problems with them though. Even though they are oversold and not as rare as an Evo I guess I could see why people would buy them. For our purposes wait till the new Supra comes out though {thumbup}

I couldnt agree more. Their design is horrible - just giant slabs of plastic - no creases, no lines, nothing...

Scions arent too bad, but they dont have any power. Im surprised the xB can even break through the air resistance.

The VAST majority, at least in my area, are beige.

Just generalizing, but I think the majority of toyota owners are looking for something very conservative and generic, while they keep selling them that way, they'll keep designing them that way.

Most of Toyota's best line up are in the Lexus side of Toyota.

I agree, its just unfortunate that the prices have to be inflated. I couldnt justify the $30k+ tag of an IS or the $40-50k+ tag for everything else. If I wanted a luxory car I'd buy BMW :crap: Im done complaining though :D

18-25 year olds, generally speaking, don't make for a good target audience for new cars. Toyota markets cars to people who can afford to buy them, and does so very succesfully. Are they bland? Yes. Are the comfortable, reliable, dependable? Absolutely. For the demographic that values function over style, Toyota is heads and shoulders above everyone and it shows in their sales.

I like the FJ Cruiser! If I needed an SUV and went off-roading, I'd strongly consider it.

Toyota may not currently sell anything that is really performance-oriented for enthusiasts, but you can see it doesn't hurt their profitability and market share. They are innovators in manufacturing flexibility and quality systems, and they focus on building products that appeal to the masses.

I'm guessing so that the Supra will be more of a bang...

They suck for enthusiasts and the 2% demographic they represent. They do not suck for the other 98% of car buyers.

exactly, sure they don't have any exciting 500hp cars but what they do have is reliability that is unmatched, great service and very safe cars. i think personally that Toyota is the best car company in the world and i am guessing i am not the only one. my next car (suv) will be a 4runner or land cruiser and i am very happy about it.

I own 3 Toyotas currently, and I couldn't be happier with any of them. All 3 are comfortable, reliable, and built extremely well. One of them is a beast off-road, and one of them is a beast on the road. I've never had a problem with any of them either, granted I've only had one of them for about a month though. I miss my Evo, but I don't miss the crappy service I got at the Mitsu dealership. That's another thing Toyota does well, for the most part, they provide great service to their clients.

'04 4Runner
'06 Sequoia
'94 Supra TT 6spd.

^^^ you have my next car, the 2004 4runner limited. i want that car so bad!!!!

jdub24 May 31, 2006 12:26 PM

Yeah, I love that SUV. I've been through Explorers, Cherokees, and Grand Cherokees, and I can say that this 4Runner is hands down the best all-around SUV in that class.

Check out page 5, middle to bottom of page for pics of my 4Runner. It's the only 4R on that page I believe, the only lifted black 4R anyway. Since those pics, I've installed a K&N Intake, blacked out the headlight housing and added the hood scoop from the Sport version. It's a wonderful daily driver. The lift did kill my gas mileage though, I'm averaging around 13 now in town. It was around 17-18. Oh well, it's fun off road though.....

blonde May 31, 2006 01:41 PM

your 4runner looks SICK!!! any chance you can post some interior pictures? also, 17-18 mpg around town is pretty damn good for a car of this size...
