2016 3000gt?

If it's true then that's good news!

looks expensive...

sblvro Feb 5, 2015 02:28 PM

3000GT has always been expensive. Hopefully a Godzilla beater!

Robevo RS Feb 5, 2015 02:56 PM

the VR4 was awesome :)
See what happens, but i was never really a big 3000GT fan.

elkazX Feb 5, 2015 02:59 PM

yup, looks pretty comparable to a gtr..hopefully mitsu follows through with this.

nemsin Feb 5, 2015 03:14 PM

We would have heard more about this if it was scheduled for a 2016 release. Looks like vaporware to me.

Has it been a 100k+ car though? I'm not too familiar with what they went for new in the '90's..

When the car came out in 1990 it was actually a pretty good value, with the base model around $20k and the VR4 somewhere around $32k. The base corvette at this time was about $31k (the ZR1 was around $60k), so the 3000GT compared favorably. The Supra was also quite a bit more expensive when the Mk IV came out in 93, I think $33k for the base and $38k for the TT.

By the time it ended in 1999, VR4s had an MSRP of $44600 + options, which makees it a ballpark ~$65k car today. And while a **** ton of fun, they got priced out of existence (same with the NSX [sorta], RX7, 300ZX, Supra, etc). The Corvette was $38k at this juncture and the Supra TT was actually cheaper than the 3000GT, still about $40k.

So no, not really equal to a $100k car, but certainly not cheap.

Have to agree with this. Doesn't make a ton of sense to abandon the Evo and then turn around and make a $100k exotic (which have a long history of being money-losing propositions).

twin-turbocharged DOHC Mivec V6 engine 3.8 liter as the best solution to produce for around 560 horse power and likewise 480 lb-ft of torque
Sounds a lot like the R35's VR38DETT to me.

I think it's good idea to ramp up the brand's lineup by launching a halo car to start, but Mitsubishi should try and offer both the gasoline model and the hybrid model and learn from the response.

No thats actually some iliterate journalist, thinking that Mitsubishi 3.8 is a DOHC, which is only SOHC 24v MIVEC, except the stroked 4l V6 DOHC that was made exclusively for Paris-Dakkar around 2008 which is derived from the same block.

this is just a rendering that someone created based off the new nsx, heres a link from it being posted last year http://www.carscoops.com/2014/11/new...-rendered.html

would be nice to see another performance car from Mitsubishi but with the axing of the evo, ralliart and eclipse I highly doubt they would come out with a high priced low production car

hoobastnk90 Feb 9, 2015 01:49 PM

Ugly car and concept doubt mitsu will be going anywhere near this thing.

Rzx Feb 9, 2015 04:08 PM

wow awesome. no way it'll be faster than a gt-r though

mrfred Feb 10, 2015 08:05 AM

looks and sounds like someone's pipe-dream. great looking rendition. if somehow true, mitsu better be all-in because the vette and gtr have monsterous popularity and deliver performance in spades.
